I've been keeping my eye on that upcoming release, but I didn't expect a UK release so soon. I might have to wait and hear more details on this version of Leon to compare the two. Although that French release is damn tempting. Thank you though.

There is a subtle difference in sharpness but other than that they are very similar, and clearly from the same contrasty transfer with blown-out whites that I hope we won't see on this release.

It has just been by the French magazine Les années laser (but only the movies are region free, not the bonus material)!

The entire disc would have to be region-free. There's no such thing as region-encoded extras. It's possible that the extras are PAL, in which case they wouldn't work on most Region A players.

Interesting that Optimum is handling this release as oppose to Disney. I have a feeling the PQ will be the same as the German and French only this version will probably have DTS-HD MA 5.1.

gWhy can't a part of a disc be region locked? Anyway, the magazine states that only the movies are region free. I don't exactly what it means...

Because a whole disc is region-locked. You can't region-lock part of a disc.

Is the german release considered the weakest then? I thought it looked pretty damn good to me.

They're quite known for their knowledge on the subject... Anyway, I guess there must be a reason, we'll see that when the disc will be on stores!

I watched the French BD yesterday, and overall, I was impressed. It's not perfect, but it's a nice upgrade from the DVD. I did notice edge enhancement and perhaps there is too much contrast, but it's still a nice high definition image.

It's great that both cuts are included. Hopefully a U.S. release will be similar as the different cuts each, I think, have their pros and cons.

That is a great film! Jean Reno can play so many types or roles, bad guy, good guy, comedic or even romantic lead, a very underated actor!

It would be Region-B "locked" and using the same elements used for the French and German releases.

So I assume they have used seamless branching - is that correct?

We should also make sure they got 5.1 DTS HD MA in this one and not 5.0 as for the French release...
