I tried the MTD throw back and I like the corn syrup better IMO used to the taste I drink it every day. Have not tried the Pepsi yet.

Yeah, the Mtn Dew I didn't really like at first, but after a few cans, it was great. You just have to get more used to it, since you're so used to the regular kind. Or at least that's how it was for me.

Enjoy it while you can, because it is an LTO (limited time offer) there is only a finite amount being produced and when its gone its gone. The carbonated soft drink category is kinda flat in growth and these types of LTOs are trying to get a spike in sales. The Non Carbonated drinks are where the market is seeming to be trending so thats where a majority of the the new items hitting the market are coming from like teas and flavored waters.

But yes but throwbacks are really good. I'm stocking up!

Well, yeah. corn-syrup is a kind of sugar. The difference is the throwbacks use natural sugar (from sugar cane) whereas high fructose corn syrup is part fructose (which is derived from glucose, a sugar) and part corn syrup (which is glucose). Kind of confusing, but there you go.

Neither one is really much better for you than the other (or I should say, one isn't really much worse than the other, since both aren't good for you), but HFCS is in just about everything, and some people think it causes you to want to eat more, so who knows.

The main difference is the natural sugar ones taste better, at least to me, and a bunch of other people. And there's always the fun in being naturally unhealthy, instead of relying on an artificial sweetener to give you diabetes.

2. Coke copies Pepsi and releases real sugar Coke (I really hope for this one )

Either way, real sugar is the way to go!
Already available at Costco for a couple $'s more per case. Coke is marketing this toward Latin-American immigrants, who are use to drinking sugar-sweetened soft drinks (many fillers down there don't use corn syrup). Sugar>>>HF corn syrup in just about everything, and it's actually better for you than corn syrup.

I'd say it's better for you in that it tastes better so you are happier, but whether it's any healthier for your body is questionable.

I think that a lot of people are associating "natural" with "healthy" so companies are taking advantage and putting "made with natural sugar" on packages now, and people think they are healthier than the HFCS alternatives. Healthy sugar would be an oxymoron.

But yes, I didn't realize how easy it is to get Mexican Coke in the US. A couple articles I saw online when looking up Pepsi Throwback mentioned Coke being available at Costco, among other places.

There are some wholesale websites online, but most are for restaurants who order large quantities.

Haha. No, I think they're the same price. Sugar is more expensive than corn syrup in the US, which is why they made the switch all those years ago. So if they don't charge more for the throwbacks, that's actually a good thing.

Since Aaron only posted the Pepsi one, here's the MD can (notice the more retro font):

And here's the rotated Pepsi one, to admire the font:

I've been hooked on these for the better part of the last year. It is about $20 for a case of 24 bottles.
I've tried the Pepsi and Mountain Dew throwbacks and still prefer the Mexican Coke from Costco (or any local Mexican store).

As toefer said, healthier sugar is definitely an oxymoron. I think people are kind of bamboozled by the marketing of this throwback branding, but if it is actually better than HFCS, then I'm all for it.

It reminds me of Kettle Chips, and how people think they're better for you than — say — Doritos. Both are terrible for you. People "think" Kettle Chips are better, though, because they're "more natural" and therefore perceived as "better for you" than Doritos. Probably a big crock, but I love me some Kettle Chips! They could tell me they make those out of partially decomposed third-world jackal carcasses that rummaged through septic tanks for nourishment while they were alive and I'd still eat them.

That said, I still haven't seen, let alone tried, these throwback drinks. I would be willing to give them a shot. I'm not much of a soda drinker, simply because it doesn't really jive with my daily routine, but when I go out to dinner I usually get a soft drink; when I do, it's definitely a cola. I'll also have soda during family get-togethers. I prefer Coke generally, but have nothing "against" Pepsi.

A lot of the soda's (coke or pepsi) do taste better in mexico than here. Even the beer's do!

They do have coke with sugar in Mexico. I just asked my friend right now. He said it taste different, but better and all the tourists love it LOL And it makes you hyper he said. Maybe they went back to their first recipe where they used real coke in it

wish I could get a hold of Pepsi Natural which is only in bottles in 10 markets. It is real sugar and real kola nut extract. If you never had a Pepsi or Mtn Dew from a glass bottle you have been missing the real deal - plastic and cans ruins the taste compared to glass.

Also, around Passover there is a kosher Pepsi made from sugar found mostly in New York.

When I tell some of my younger friends that "back in the day" Pepsi/Coke tasted better out of bottles than plastic they ALL look at me like I'm crazy-they have absolutley no idea what good soda tasted like.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy a good soda just like everyone else-but everything in moderation.

You got that right! I lived on 8-packs of Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper and especially Orange Crush when I was a kid. I made some pretty good $$ going around and picking up returnable bottles. Never did quite understand why glass bottles just died. I suppose portability was a big part, but you would think in today's recycle society, returnable glass bottles would make a comeback.
