Agree 1000% and we in the same boat about holding off from getting an amp.
I have been waiting on someone else to try it first
Check out Don's quote of Dobyblu (who owns an 805) listing the different features of each amp- most of the strengths of the 806 come in regards to bitstreaming, and I'm not sure they're really a big deal- how many soundtracks do you have that are 24/192 anyway? I think I have maybe one, and Akira is another one I think that does.

I did my research before purchasing my 805- especially when combined with the PS3 that is sending out audio PCM, which nullifies most of the 806's strengths.

*edit* It doesn't make the 806 any less of a great machine, but if you're comparing the two directly they basically took out raw power to add in a few features and keep it at the same price point. I am actually holding off purchasing an amp because I've found that my 805 can more than push my setup.

this is an opinion what im going to post.........
a LOT of people want to bitstream their ps3 to receiver so we can get those beautiful words 'dolby true hd / dts mstr'

we all know ps3 can NOT bitstream audio due to how its made. a new ps3 needs to come out with bitstream capabilities.

thus the ps3 slim will have bitstream audio ability.
for that alone i would trade my 'old' ps3 for the slim ps3

now what about an owner who has a reg blu ray player......you KNOW they are bitstreaming the audio 9/10 times just to see the pretty words

so in your case of 'i pcm audio to my 805 with my ps3' you are correct.....the 806 does get nullified.

for someone who has a standalone blu ray player that bitstreams, they would go for an 806.

plus the 5 hdmi inputs works wonders

Which one is better
805. The 806 doesn't have the Burr Brown Dac's,and it's built differently.

I purchased my 805 long before the 806 came out and if I had to buy one right now I would still get the 805... unless I could get a good deal on a 906
