The list was in Chinese with alternate Chinese name(s), I just used Wikipedia and Chinese Baidu and Google to include all the English titles as well.

God of Cookery was just broadcast yesterday on an HDTV channel here in Hong Kong and it looked a typical K&R Blu-ray just to remind everyone that the K&R blu-rays aren't that bad. If I had to give it a video grade, I would grade it as 3.5/5 - and definitely a whole lot better than all those non-anamorphic DVD versions out there.

God of Cookery HDTV version is genuine HD, unlike many of K&R Blu-rays which are just upscales.

ive got all the vcd ones never thought about upgrading to BD heck i didnt even realize that a lot of his older ones are on BD now

Yeah, but my point was that the HDTV version looked like an unconverted DVD regardless if it was or not. As Pro-B has stated in the past, it seems like most of the 90s HK classics will always look like upconverted DVDs on video, and expectations should be lowered if one wants to see pristine video quality versions of these on bluray.

Zu Warriors on Magic Mountain also played on HK tv the other day, and surprisingly the K&R bluray and HK Legends DVD looked better than the broadcast version.

I'm assuming that the HK channels that broadcast classics are interested in broadcasting good video quality versions. If not, then I guess my observations are pointless. But as long as I'm here, I'll keep everyone updated if I see a better video-quality version on tv than the bluray/DVD versions.

The HK legends dvd looked similarly bad though. Would you call the dvd a waste of money too? The main benefit is that the Bluray version cant get scratched like the dvd. so the blu has the advantage.

From Beijing With Love was just broadcast today on an HDTV channel here in Hong Kong and it was non-anamorphic letterboxed crappy looking (when this channel usually shows anamorphic dvd quality or HD quality). My anamorphic bootleg dvd was much better quality than what they broadcast, so basically, that's too bad.

According to Celestial Pictures, all of Chow's Shaw Bros. movies have HD masters:

• Justice, My Foot!
• Out of the Dark
• Love on Delivery
• Look Out, Officer!
• The Mad Monk

Unfortunately, the wait for Shaw Brothers BDs hasn't exactly been an easy one. I've seen an HDTV version of The Mad Monk and it is damn gorgeous. You can find three screen caps here.

Apart from the movies in what I call his current period (Shaolin Soccer and onwards), the only BDs of Chow's work I've seen are King of Beggars, Legend of the Dragon and When Fortune Smiles. I can definitely say When Fortune Smiles is a proper transfer. I was undecided about King of Beggars, but I think Legend of the Dragon is an upscale. At least it uses the remastered DVD master so like MOST of the Fortune Star BDs, while it's not a proper transfer it still looks a lot nicer than any DVD versions.

I went and head and ordered it shortly after making this post.

It arrived yesterday and I watched it right away. The transfer is solid for the most part, but it looks like a DVD era master and it has the Miramax logo at the start (so I am assuming it's the same as the British version).

The special features have awful audio and only Korean subtitles.

If you just want the movie, this is a decent option and the packaging is very nice.

I have the original Korean 2- disc bluray and the movie disc is identical to the UK Optimum release. The new Korean release must have gotten rid of the English dubbed version and squeezed everything onto one bd.
