the thing i really hate about the "director/producer" cuts...if u will....are the songs that were added/changed.

esp. in Ep. VI, in jabba's palace and @ the end w/the Ewok song being changed!!

the other stuff that was changed i can live with, but the songs just seem out of place compared to the rest of the movie.

I can see Lucas saying that so we buy the altered versions first thinking that the original untouched versions will never be released. I think I remember that the Original Trilogy was not going to be released on DVD since they were lost or something along those lines and so I bought the Special Editions. Once Lucas reeled me in, he then released the Original Trilogy which I also bought. I have a feeling the Original Trilogy will be released on Blu-ray one day after all other versions are released first to make the most profit from the series.

i really hope you're right...i want the originals just as much as everyone else...just throwing out what i've heard again and again though. how great would it be to have seamless branching for each OT movie with both theatrical and SE cuts of the movie on a single disc in 7.1...well, a guy can dream

You got that right. My 1st thought upon seeing Yoda in Ep. 1 was "That's not Yoda...somebody got a hold of one of the old creature props from the late 80's movie Munchies...."

Honestly....the only added/changed stuff that I enjoyed in the Special Editions was (1) expanding the wampa cave scene (2) making the Alderaan explosion more massive. In the originals, the TIE fighter explosions made more of a big boom than an actual planet blowing up

Other than those 2 things, I really didn't see the need for any of the changes/additions that were made.

You won't get the originals. Unless they're the same format as the last DVD release.

The newest versions are the preferred versions, and he's not going to bother for subpar incarnations.

I don't think I want to spend anymore money on the "special" editions. I'll probably just give the Blu-rays a rental.

Only the first year or so of figures in 1995/1996 were like that.
