That amp looks real nice man wow!!

I would never suggest a blind buy either but I think you'll like enjoy the IQ7's coming from the polks. I preferred the sound of them over the Polk Monitors I used to have - you'll notice a much wider soundstage compared to them and you won't be limited to one sweet spot with these speakers. Congrats on the new gear man!

Looking good! Those IQ7's should be serious, and you definitely have some good equipment to power them.

Boo for me not being able to see any of the pics at work. I'll have to look when I get home. What kind of amp are you using?

Thanks for the Def Tech mention, Callas!

You've already made your purchase, so I won't get into DT's, but I'm sure you'll love your Kefs. I've never heard them, personally. Never heard Energy or PSB either, but I'd say the same thing with them. Have heard the Monitor Audio- can't believe that Audiogon deal. Wowzers.

My initial impressions of the KEFS. I had read and heard that these speakers were bright. I dunno what it is but they are far from it. Maybe its my receiver amp combo, but these speakers are very laid back. They are very detailed. They do lack on the low end which I didnt expect, but it is a 3 way design with tweet mid bass and bass driver. I guess I was expecting more. But the overall impression is awesome. I cant wait til they break in!!! Will give a more detailed reveiw when they have more hours on them. BTW please excuse the wires. Wire management will happen this weekend, I just wanted to get things setup first.

Very nice looking set-up. Don't you just love the way they look without grills? As a fellow IQ7 owner, I agree with the lack of bass, but I knew that going in and have my sub covering the low end. Congrats.

I'm glad to hear that you like them. As a fellow Harman Kardon owner I can relate to you. The warmth of HK receivers will tone down brighter speakers as my receiver has done for my JBL/Harman speakers. Those speakers you have should sound even better after break in. For those lows that you are looking for you should add a good sub when you get the chance.

All I can say is wow.

I am currently bumping tunes why the wife is out shopping with my sister. The kefs are starting to really open up. I am listening to them in 2 channel mode with no sub. I am using my Harman Kardon sacd player listening to some Sam Cooke and Earth wind and fire. The imaging on these speakers are amazing. They articulate well. The detail is amazing in them. I will say the lack a little low end, but they have enough to make you smile. The bass is so tight in these speakers. The midrange is very good. Some say the tweeter is a little bright but I havent had that experience. I think my amp/receiver combo has warmed them up. I am biamping them sending 200 watts of clean power to them. I dont know if this a fair comparison or not, but I went from monitor 50's to these and the difference is night and day. I will say I am very happy with my purchase. The sherwood newcastlen amp has performed flawlessly handling the load and not breaking a sweat. It runs cooler than the HK. It has goobs of power with 2 tordial transformers and seperate power supplies for each channel. This is not the end to all end setups but I think this will be with me for a little while, although I am entertaining buying the IQ9's which have another bass driver and moving the 7's to surround duty. I am enjoying audio bliss right now. Seperates are definately worth it, if you get the right gear. Off to listen to some london symphony orchestra- a whiter shade of pale.

very nice, I am happy to see there are a few Kef owners, And I am happy you really are enjoying them, Kef has always intrigued me, so I am happy to hear a great review. I think if you add a good sub to them you will be super happy cause you will get the low end that your looking for. My only concern with your system was how you would like the Center channel cause it seemed small for those iQ7s. Anyways, Happy listening.

I can say that the center is a pleasant surprise. It definitely can hang. Would a bigger one be better of course, but I have thought about just adding a second one like the one I got. Dont really know how that will work, but its a thought

Eh up Derrell ! As a fellow Kef owner, I'm glad you're pleased with your purchases and are understanding Kef speakers for what they truly are. You've just bought into a brand that has a hugely respected history behind them, not just here in the UK, but worldwide.

As you know, Kef aren't renowned for their earth shattering low frequencies on floorstanders and sats, (even though their Reference 209 sub is one of the best subs available on the planet - at a price to match!) but that's what subwoofers are for.

What you get with the Kef's, is the ability to hear all the detail you were intended to in the lower mid, mid, upper mid and high fq's. Personally, I don't understand the claims that they have a harsh top end - I find the Uni-q array delivers extreme clarity and excellent off axis response without being fatiguing, for my aging ears anyway !. At the recent Sound & Vision show in Bristol here in the UK, it was the Kef demo room that blew most people away, and left the other manufacturers looking on rather enviously lol.

I bet Earth, Wind & Fire sounded dope through the IQ's. Let's Groove and Devotion has been played many a time in our gaf mate. (Soul/Funk boy here !). What a star your wife is for getting you the extra speakers as a birthday present too !

Keep up the good work, and enjoying it all and look forward to the updated pics matey.

p.s if you're interested, just for geekiness value, then this is worth a read:

Hi Derrell mate. I posted to you on here earlier about Kef speakers, and it said that the moderators need to see the post before it would be shown etc., which was hours ago. What's all that about ?!

Enjoy your Kef's mate !
