I have banana plugs going into my receiver but I keep seeing pictures of people using them with the speakers. None of my speakers seem to want to let me plug them in on the top like I keep seeing in pictures. What am I missing here?

Do they have red and black caps that need to be removed? If you take the wires out, screw them down all the way, you can grab the caps.

Monoprice drops the price of their banana plugs to under a $1/pair every now and then. So if you're both cheap and patient you can cut your costs in half by waiting for the sale. They were cheap last week so there probably won't be a sale any time soon.

Navajo White Monster Speaker wire. I bought it on eBay for significantly below retail.

I'm using the monoprice ones too, but I wonder if the whole "curling over" type of connection allows for all the strands of wires to connect securely. I had to re-curl several times until I could no longer feel the cable move in the plug when I would pull on it. Since the best connection is the one with the most wires connected securely, I had to really play with it before I had peace of mind. I think I would prefer having to screw-in to secure, even if I bleed all over the place

After inserting my wires into the clips I fanned all of the smaller strands all around the edge and screwed the cap on tight. But even if I didn't, as long as there is solid contact between the strands and the banana plug there shouldn't be any loss of signal.
