I'll be buying the TE's day 1. The only thing that I will be upset about is if Warner were to decide to release the EE's a couple of months later. As it stands right now, if we would otherwise have to wait a year or more to get the EE's, then I have no problem purchasing both sets. I also have a feeling that many people who are saying it's the EE's or nothing will be caving in as well. You can't always get exactly what you want exactly when you want it. The TE's will hold me just fine until the more definitive versions become available. In any case this will be a huge release on blu-ray.

My preferred release would be both the theatrical and extended editions, along with ALL the bonus materials previously released.

Something tells me that that won't necessarily happen, but one can dream, can't I?

One thing, that I'm hoping that WB/NL will do is keep the color cases the same , like the DVD TE and EE. To me that would make my day. Just seeing the metalic green, red, and blue case, That, to me would make the puraches worth wile. BTW what color would the hobbit be? Or was it just for the lord of the rings.

I wish I could make a poll for this, but I don't want to over stay my welcome... If you know what I mean.

Will buy both. It sounds like the EE editions won't come out til 2011 or 2012. Will just sell off the theatricals or give them to the kids when they move out. To me, this trilogy, will be epic on blu if they do it right. I like these movies more than Star Wars but we really need to get movies like these out on blu to open the floodgates.

This is one I won't double-dip. I have the EE DVDs, which are great, probably the best Audio and Picture available on DVD. The quality is totally watchable. Don't really watch them enough to fork over $70 for another set. Also, they're good, but I find everytime I watch them they don't seem as cool as they were on the previous viewing. Sam gets a bit more annoying and the 15 endings in the 3rd get a bit too much.

I won't double dip all of my DVDs, just my top 25 or so.

Its offensive but u can understand it.

With an older film like LotR there is no excuse. The TE and EE versions should be released together. Period. There r still ways for the studio to make extra movie off the two versions without forcing fans of the EE version to either buy a version they dont want or wait a year.

The most cost effective for the consumer is one version that allows the viewer to pick which version they watch. We cant have that because there is money to be made.

The most productive method for the studios, other than the screwing they r currently pushing on us, is release both TE and EE in a box set. This way they make extra money that they wouldnt make if they offered the individual versions. Then, release TE and EE separately. This way, the fans of neither version have to wait if they dont want to and r willing to pay more. They cant wait too long to release the separate editions tho or were back to the screwing again.

People talk about LotR being a big push disk to sell hardware. What happens to that big push if a large percent put off buying the TE version and the player as well.
Grow up. It is a business. And the prime motivation is to maximise profit. That is what they are doing.

You can be sure that the business plan is to get a LOTR Bluray release around the time that The Hobbit hits the theaters. If there was just one release, that's when we would see it.

Releasing the TE's now gives me the option.

Don't like it? Fine. Don't buy it.

BUT QUIT WHINNING ABOUT IT!!!

Speak with your wallets, but this is childish.

My plan was to wait until the EEs came out. The recent sale at WBShop.com changed that. $35 for the set (maybe less if I can sell my TE DVD's). That is worth the double dip. And, with these in hand, I can wait for a decent sale on the EE's instead of jumping on it the moment they hit.

But, if you don't want to buy them, nobody is forcing you.

Both, I prefer the TE's for the 3rd movie and 1st movie, but really enjoy the EE of the 2nd movie.

I'd prefer a box set that has both versions on 1 disc, hopefully we'll see that when the EE set is released. I just can't get away with the EE for fellowship, but love them for the other 2.

Question Warner Is CHEAP!

That's right Warner is so cheap with their movies the main reason why we are not getting the extended versions of TLOTR Trilogy is Because Warner/New Line IS SOOOOOOOOOOO CHEAP with their Movies Going on a BD-25 With 5.1 Dolby TrueHD. I'm a DTS-HDMA FAN, but in this case i Would love to see these movies on a BD-50 Extended Edition Version on a 7.1 Dolby TrueHD or my Favorite DTS-HDMA Because Blu-ray needs to be recognized because if you are going to put it on your advertisement on audio quality up to 7.1 Surround Sound then all Blu-Ray movies need to be in 7.1 Surround Sound and if you have 5.1 Surround then it would Backward Compatible with your surround sound syten like it has when you pop in a movie that has 7.1 Surround, Of some sort. Then on the display on your recevier if you have 5.1 then it would display and play the movie if it were on a 5.1 surround sound, soundtrack, throught a digital coaxial cable not by rca cables, if you have surround sound that can go that quality.

Sorry about this message, but I would love to see all movies in 7.1 surround like what they were ment to be heard in, instead of 5.1, because this is high def not digital....... for DVD QUALITY! I REALLY THINK COMPANIES NEED TO SEE THIS MESSAGE AND ASK THEMSELVES THAT THEY ARE REALLY COMMITTED TO BLU-RAY CAUSE THE AUDIO ON THE BLU-RAY CAN GO ALL THE WAY TO 7.1 SURROUND SOUND... I've Seen and heard both versions together on one blu-ray disck, and or company that does both versions of Dolby TrueHD 7.1 and DTS-HDMA 7.1 all on one disk... and this is what companies need to have on ALL their BLU-RAY DISK.

Sorry About this message being sooooooo very long, but I need to express my feelings about this I'm a Blu-ray Fan. I Quit buying/renting dvd movies, since blu-ray came out. Now I'm 100% Blu-ray and I Double Dip on all my movies that i previous own on Dvd to now the Blu-ray Version.

Pre-ordered the theatrical cuts for now, and I intend on slipping the discs in the same case as the extended cut DVDs. If the extended versions come out later, I'll probably get those too to replace the DVDs, but still keep the theatrical cuts. It is a bit of a shame that they didn't put both cuts in one set, but for my favorite movie series of all time, I don't mind double-dipping.

In a perfect world we would get the extended version via seamless branching. If you don't have enough time to watch the EE then just watch the theatrical with a click on your remote. Studios just like to screw with us. They know we want the extended but a double dip just doesn't happen if they give it to us.

I am happy they are finaly coming out on BD, I am waiting for the EE, that is the version I now prefer. I've seen the TE only one in theaters and I've now seen the EE over 50 times each. I am quite happy for those who want the TE but I am waiting for the EE, that is my prefered version of those movies.
