Question Updated concert wish lists

Now that we have Netflix streaming, Pandora, BD Live, Amazon, Youtube streaming, etc. I really hope some of these bands will recognize Blu-Ray as a new, burgeoning market. Aside from the fact that this music deserves to be seen/heard at its best.

Concert for George (I still watch this about once every couple months)
Eagles Farewell Australia
Pink Floyd Pulse
Concert for NY (even if trimmed to the Who, Billy Joel, McCartney, Bowie etc.)
The Who - something recent or perhaps combined with the VH1 Rock Honors
Paul McCartney - Live in Red Square
MTV Unplugged - Clapton/Nirvana/Aerosmith etc. if the source is good enough
Metallica - center stage setup would be great for this format and in surround
Judas Priest Memphis 1982. I want to hear Rob on Victim of Changes in 5.1
Genesis - seems to be made for Blu Ray
Cowboy Junkies
More Soundstage/Live at Abbey Road recordings

What did I forget? I'm sure there are plenty I missed. As an aside after hearing "Love" in 5.1 I really hope there will be a 5.1 option on Beatles remasters now or in the near future.

You most likely forgot plenty more, as there have been hundreds of great concert DVD releases in the years gone by. Chances are that most of these will never see a Blu-ray transfer (at least not in the near future). However, I think that the probability of new concerts making it to the Blu-ray format is fairly high. We can only hope anyway!

Over 30% of my BD collection consists of Concert BD's and I'm always on the lookout for a new release. My most recent purchase was the Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood: Live From Madison Square Garden and next up is the new John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers: 70th Anniversary.

The title I want more than anything on BD is Pink Floyd: The Wall. Maybe soon, but I've heard no rumblings about it yet.

John

Grateful Dead, View from the Vault series needs to be brought to Blu, in addition to them needing to start releasing new ones...... #4 came out FOREVER ago!!!!!

I'd like "JEMP" and other small studios to release stuff in Blu-ray too.... but with lesser known bands, they have to get studio support from wherever they can, so it's not likely anytime soon.

+1 on the Greatful Dead material, however some of those recording are pretty bad, wonder how they could clean them up if at all?

Also wouldn't mind seeing some Zappa stuff come to life.

I like Zappa.... but the DVD's out there are all crap..... "Does Humor Belong in Music" is the only decent concert one of the bunch...... Quite disappointing, since I never got to see him live

Hiromi. They just released it on DVD and they have an HD version on YouTube.

I'd love to see it on Blu-ray.

I would like to thank John for bringing it to my attention several months ago, but I will have the opportunity to see Asia and Yes (without John Anderson and Rick Wakeman) in concert. I will see them tomorrow evening at the Tower Theater outside of Philadelphia and again on Sunday evening August 2 at Musikfest in Behlehem, PA for the last concert of the North American tour.

I know how much of a YES fan you are, so this should be a most enjoyable 2 concert experience for you. It would have been perfect had Jon and Rick been a part, but like anything else, music is a business and sometimes good company parts ways. All in all, you'll still have a most enjoyable time no doubt!

BTW.....Mick Jagger is 66 today! Man...gotta give him credit! I could only wish I had his kind of energy!

In the case of Yes, Jon was still ailing as far as I know from his throat problems and Asthma that canceled last years tour. Rick I guess felt that it was getting too much at this point; Rick's son Oliver is taking his Dad's place. Steve Howe will be playing guitar for both Asia and Yes which to say the least is extremely unusual for a performer to be in both bands.

these are some of the things I'd like to see released on Blu...

Jackson 5/early Michael live performances
anything from Pink Floyd would be nice..
Rage Against the Machine live as well...
The Roots playing live
Lynyrd Skynyrd live

and umm...I'm forgetting a lot of stuff here...

Default Good choices

Some great mentions - Pearl Jam seems like a natural. Someone mentioned Music for Montserrat - that and any of the Prince's Trust / Knebworth / Live 8, etc. Even a Woodstock 2 or Woodstock 3 compilation.

It drives me crazy when they release live festivals on dvd's that they cut each groups' sets to 1-2 songs each. Imagine how much great footage there is out there recorded that no one will ever see again. And the people making the choices have their own preferences. For example, on the Woodstock (blu-ray is great by the way) according to the producer, they chose the songs based on the lyrical content. Great for a film but it would have been nice from a musical perspective to hear some of the other songs that didn't fit the peace/love/war/etc. theme. Some of those songs are now included on the new blu-ray boxset.

In response to the person who had mentioned that most of our choices were older releases, I like everything from classical to jazz to metal. I think most of our picks were based on the production quality of some of these bands. Queen/Pink Floyd/Rush/The Eagles etc. spent days and days mixing and editing their songs. I love Disturbed, Korn etc. as well but I don't think they are as focused on this aspect of the music or their live shows.
