woot.

Come on Universal, I gotta see Scarface in high-def

There was a segment in the videobusiness article that was troubling though, regarding the capability of Sony to deliver as a robust a product as they promise in the time frame that they promise (Spring 2006).

If Sony delivers a quality product on time, studio execs predict that Warner and Paramount would ditch on the hd-dvd format. That would be great, as the format war would end short and quick. But if Sony doesn't deliver on time, the execs predict that the studios will go ahead w/ hd-dvd. As entertaining as the drama is, what I'd really like to see is blu-ray established promptly, and hd-dvd's death come quick and painless.

The most disturbing part, however, is when the article mentions that a studio exec says engineers re-evaluating blu-ray technology this week concluded that it won't be ready to offer everything Sony promises for two more years. I was under the impression that Sony had its act together -- but if we're still having problems at this stage in the game, will we be seeing Sony stumble because it can't make the finish line on time?

Looks like Warner went even farther than Paramount and joined the actual board of directors. Better update the Blu-ray FAQ
