This article jogged a memory... I remembered a big part of me finally getting a PS2 was so I could watch movies in my dorm room. A shitty DVD player... but nonetheless, it did the trick.

As for the PS3... well, I can't think on any standalone that could top it as far as BD movie playback.

Greatest thing I ever threw 600 bucks at

lots of people used ps2 as a dvd player in their dorm/bed-rooms.
