Guys guys guys! Let's be civilized here and not throw our brethren to the hounds! Sure surround sound is a huge element of HT and apart of the vast and wonderful experience. Admittedly Tron, adding a little bang and boom to your HT will grant you more of an extended and special experience with the phenom known as blu-ray than you could ever imagine. It does, however, come at a huge price. Sure you look in the community forum and see all the amazing HT setups out there and they look amazing - truthfully some look like shit! Adding the full current audio setups to my massive HT system (massive compared to me and my wife's teeny apartment) has been one of the most enjoyable, hardest, money draining, and frustrating (yes enjoyable and frustrating) experiences I've been through so far - haven't had a child yet. It's one hell of a commitment because once you start you want to do it right because that's the only way! I'd definitely recommend it to get you out of this slump, but by all means don't do it if you haven't got the time, place, money, approval of the wife, etc. And for Pete's sake, if you put a surround sound system in your den or whatever, then don't put one in your bedroom as well

I don't have surround yet and i still love watching blurays. Don't be such elitists. I can't really justify dropping $1000 right now to complete my 5.1, but that doesn't mean i'm not fiending to do just that.

Hehe I kinda understand what the op means.

I bought a PS3 in March 2008, and then, each Blu Ray put in the PS3, to play on the brand new 50" HDTV, was a "special moment".

Now, with even a $129 Insignia player in the Bedroom (works very well btw), it is just about watching a film with the best possible picture (don't have upgraded audio yet) ... which it kinda is what it was in the first place

My first beloved player, the Sony BDP-S300 (the Tank), still sits at the center of the main HDTV. Yeah, it takes 45 seconds to turn on. Sure, even with firmware tweaks some newer movies still take forever to load. But that was part of the appeal - the anticipation. I could only watch blu-ray THERE.

Now that I have a Panasonic BD35 in my bedroom, the glory of owning a blu-ray player just isn't the same. Sure, I am enjoying more blu-rays in the privacy of my room, but it simply isn't the Holy Grail of entertainment like it used to be. Even though the BD35 is much faster.

Used to be I had to wait for the house to quite down, make my popcorn and hopefully watch the whole movie without so much as a "boo". Now, I watch from the comfort of my bed and I'm falling asleep watching the original Star Trek movies, and even Coraline last night.

Sigh. Anyone else feel the same?
Do what I'm gonna do.

GET A PROJECTOR AND START WATCHING THIS STUFF AT OVER 100"!

That'll bring back the novelty...I assure you!
