I have 54 BD Movies and 3 games.

I originally bought the PS3 for the movies!

As long as Blu Ray Wins!

I have to guess that most PS3 owners aren't using it for BD playback. Not that this is a bad thing, I think it's part of Sony's genius strategy -- a huge potential market for BDs.
exactly, you have to take away that not every PS3 owner has an HD TV which makes the pool even smaller....and then take away the fact that some people who have an HD TV and a PS3 dont know of or use BD either....but for as much as HDDVD talks about it being a marathon it seems BD is primed considerably more for a marathon......they have potentially huge market already in place and with every holiday/brithday whatever, people buying HDTV's and or PS3's it only increases more....so EVENTUALLY when the exclusives start rolling out id look for BD sales to jump exponentially.

Id even venture to guess we will see the same type of jump after this holiday as we saw last holiday for BD....its going to be insane once content starts coming and the holidays roll around, just games alone will increase PS3 sales by probably double not to mention a price drop and the holidays.......gonna be a great Q4 for BD owners.

sample of 2000 out of 67.9 million people equals 0.0029% of the population sampled. I've never owned an xbox but doesn't that need some kind of add-on to play dvds. That should be factored in as well. I don't think the xbox should count since "out of the box" it isn't capable of playing dvds. Including the xbox skews the numbers lower than they really are.

I agree with smiley, I too would like to see the breakdown by system.

You would think this is true, but my dad thought it only plays BD. Now my dad is a pretty smart guy, engineer, just uninformed. I bet there are more out there who don't know that it will play DVD's

Who did the survey? Who'd they ask? They obviously never asked any of the members here... what a bunch of horsesh*t.

People who randomly come up with numbers to suit their own purpose should be smacked. Smacked HARD.

Below are some of their other "reports". They are biased and paid by companies who favor downloading movies. The report is FUD.

http://www.thediffusiongroup.com/research.htm

"Podcasting Usage Models and Demand Forecasts thru 2012"
"Online Movie Downloads: Analysis and Forecasts"
"Broadband Video: Redefining the Television Experience"
"IPTV 2006 Update: The Evolution of IP Media"
"Receptivity to TelcoTV among PayTV Subscribers - Primary Research and Analysis"

The first paragraph deals with DVD's only(Data). The second paragraph going into HD game consoles(Opinion). There is a disconnect between the data and the opinion given. Hilarious.

actually i cant imagine why BDA or any of us would not embrace that LESS PS3 owners are using it for BD's it only means that the standalones are holding up very well with HD DVD.

Who cares what this survey says... If anything, it's making the BD attach rate go through the roof, voiding any arguments that the HD-DVD camp had left in them.

the survey is a joke maybe certin people dont like certin movies lots of things factoring in thats such a general statement to say "shouldnt it be 10:1"... this was nothing more than a poll to try to add another "Knock" to the ps3 bottom line 2,000 people is not enough of 4million if they even talked to 2,000 known ps3 owners to prove anything

2000 fairly selected individuals is a good sample size for that market actually.

Now the issue is if they were fairly selected or not, which is more a critique on the surveying organization, to which I'm not capable of responding.

Not to brag, but I took classes like Quantum Physics and Thermodynamics in college, which involved a high amount of statistical analysis. The research in this article holds no credence.
Statistical analysis is not scopes and measures, forunately [for both halves]. 2000 is a reasonable sample size. The 2,000 sample size is about what Gallup used for their immediate history samplings.

And for some odd reason, I suspect that the number of gamers in the US is less than or equal to the number of people in the US .

And the post updated... They are refering solely to DVD playback. Which isn't surprising at all. Aside from the PS3 and 360, consoles aren't upscaling movies. And even the first gen PS2s weren't outputting progressive. However, consider, in 7 years, how many people are going to be using their ps3 for blu-ray playback. It'll be a larger number than that 14%, but prolly not as large as the current rate.

I think people like to post before reading other replies. This is why I wouldn't worry about it and just let it sink off the page. This'll be the last time I spend time on this thread.
