It is sexy and as always the blacks make a huge difference. If you can afford it and find one, I would say get it! Some comments:

- Any hesitation due to retention/burn-in fears I believe are unnecessary. For the first 200hrs I did run a break-in DVD (you can find on-line) for part-time and the other time I simply watched full screen content. Since then I have watched anything and everything for long periods of time with absolutely no problem. Of course, I am not an idiot and leave the TV on for 24 hours on pause.

- I avoid watching Standard TV and try to watch exclusively HD and Blu-rays. Maybe it's because of this that anytime I "stumble" on a standard broadcast, I am shocked by the awful picture quality. Not sure if it is the TV or simply my viewing habits. DVD watching is fine however.

- The attachable speakers are nice looking and sound fine, but a TV like this really needs to be attached to a good audio system. I have my speakers attached because I like the way they look. Also, I have the option of watching OTA programs only with the TV speakers.

- The display itself is a bit sensitive to stains, but I try to never touch it and the smudges I have seen, I was able to clean with no problem (including my son's hand print at one point).

- Although many recommend professional calibration on this set, I have not done it and do not see any obvious reason to do it - the PQ is awesome out of the box. I may change my mind someday but not today.

I'll leave it at that for now. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Get home soon!
excellent points have a 151 for a almost a yr now myself and the ir burn in plasmas arent bright enough b/s talk is just that b/s this tv does jus what another member staed ull look at all other tvs differently
definetly a hd 7.1 sound field matched to this is seeing and hearing like never before exactly what project was and is meant to do
as far as pio leavingnever there jus on hiatus imo and i base that on 2 stated company facts
1-pioneer is still workin with panny for plasma tech
2-pio is still workin with sharp on blu ray players and lcd tech
why do either of these if they had no plans to come back and rein as king again in a few yrs once the economy gets betta and they recoup losses???
jus my opinion

For me the feeling is a bit different with the 9G Kuro's, I have owned mine for over a year and when I first got it I was amazed at the PQ, then I got it ISF'd and I was again blown away but.....

I dont know if it is just me and my tendancy to get sick of things quickly, but I am disappointed that there is nothing to upgrade to. I have went through about 8 60"-70" TV's in the past 5 years, some have been placed in other rooms of the house, others have been sold. None made it past a year so Pio has that going for it.

But now when I turn it on my thoughts are "Wow, this is state of the art.... Man TV's have a ways to go."

After a year with it there are things I cant wait for them to improve on.
- Brightness {on sunny days it is not the display for the livingroom}
- Black levels {they are beyond amazing, but even that can get better}
- Depth {The sheet of glass TV Pio showed last cedia comes to mind}
- Another HDMI port and bring back the 2nd component port

Those items would have me excited to be shopping for a new TV again.

Pioneer's press release - http://pioneer.jp/press-e/2009/pdf/release_3q09e_02.pdf

It states they are pulling out of the display business altogether, that's LCD and plasma, by March 2010 and says nothing at all about whether or not they're making an '09 plasma so print it and show it to the BB guy and ask him to clarify, because nothing he says is in the press release is actually there.

As far as I know the US plant is an assembly plant, not a plasma manufacturing plant.

It does look pretty cut and dry to me. Thanks DB!

Exactly, good point! And just so ppl know, Pioneer isnt going "out of business" alltogether. They are still making everything else in their line up, just not TVs.

It is possible that when the economy gets better they may get back into the TV making business. But as of right now, per the PR from Pioneer, they are officially out of the TV making business.

Thanks for all the info! I sure hope I get R&R and I find one of these displays for sale somewhere. The plan is to fly back to N.C. and drive down to Florida. I'll be stopping pretty much everywhere on I-95 and calling the local stores hoping they have a 60" Elite in stock.

If at the end I don't go on R&R I can always try to find one on Videogon.

Likewise! I bought mine 2 days after Pioneer's announcement so as to AVOID any possible inventory & delivery issues.

I live in California not far from where they had two plants. They did close one of the plants down and a friend of mine lost his job. They combined the one plant with the other that makes speakers as well.
