=Teabaggins;2195301]OP- how about you try to keep your kid as far away from the screen addiction for as long as possible.

the kid will have it's entire life to stare at various screens and monitors, let it play like we used to play as kids.

don't kids play with regular toys anymore....parents can't even drive around without having a lcd in the car to distract the kids so they don't have to "parent"[/QUOTE]

Thats were parenting comes in .Just because I let her play it once in a while doesnt mean she will get addicted to it and if she does its my job to fix it.

Dude, I still have the goal, it just proves unrealistic. Don't worry, before too long you'll find yourself singing the crappy songs your kids see on TV while you're driving to work. Then they'll be on your iPod. Then you'll be at a Barney show.

That's silly, then she'd just throw it at the TV she's watching...

Second that! So far it's the most played game on my system. Drunken bowling alone is worth the price of a Wii.

definitely had that view while still a fetus. Over time though time you realize (especially with two boys) that it is impossible to always keep a boy entertained. I haven't done the car LCD thing yet.. .but have thought about it from time time.. Still think they can use their imagination.

This last weekend we hunted dragons in the house for a good 45 minutes (fingers for pistols, each of us callling out imaginary dragons flying around and sitting on different spots in the house.) There were some good dragons as well that we couldn't shoot

This thread took off in an interesting direction.

I wish I could have my kids raised the way I was, for the most part, right down to the "techniques" my mom used to keep me in line. Nowadays you get CPS called on you if you grab your kid quickly to keep him/her from crossing the street or raise your voice to them in public. What I'm saying is: things are just different these days, and part of that is this whole digital thing; kids learn a lot that way in this day and age.

For what it's worth, I am not quick to judge when someone says, "my kids watch x educational DVD, and play x learning game" because it's just the way it is now. Back in my time, it was pretty much Speak and Spell when it came to electronic learning devices. Any TV/monitor-related learning was OG Sesame Street (and other weird ambugiusly sexual stuff like Pee-Wee's Playhouse).

Was "our way" of learning better than what's out there today? The proud/egotisitical part of me says yes, but I don't know; my older son is pretty damned smart.
