how could there be?

haven't you seen how compact it is?

there's no way a fan could fit in there

the ventilation in the back is for outside air

Basically, you're making guesses like it's fact.

I'll take a slim once my 60gb bites the dust but, until then I'll stick with my fat. No need to get another PS3. If I did not own a PS3 at this time I would get the Slim.

For those who dont think the PS3 Slim has a fan, here is the CNET review.

They comment on how quiet the fan noise is.

Quote:
Ramping down the power consumption and, more importantly, the heat the system generates has let Sony tone down the cooling fan. With the Slim, you'll still hear some fan noise if you're close to the unit, but the hum is fainter, and it shouldn't bother you during quieter scenes in movies so long as you're not sitting right next to the PS3. (Fan noise on the previous systems varied wildly; some were noticeably loud, others were all but silent.) We also noticed that after playing a game and Blu-ray Disc for more than an hour, the light breeze the fan emitted was warm but not hot (you can hold your hand up to it without fear of getting scorched).

Unless you need to install Linux (though I don't know why this was eliminated, was there some hardware involved to prevent access to the GFX chip?), the Slim is the way to go...quieter, 45mn Cell, Bitstreaming, etc...

REcheck ur Cnet review, he says NOTHING about it having a fan. And when reading the report, when he is talking about the heat issue, he says it helped sony to tone down the fan. That doesn't mean it has a fan. All slims thus far made by sony never had a fan.

I postulate that since there are comperably so few reviews of the slim, and that few or none of the reviews themselves are time-tested, it would be illogical to comment on its reliability with any material amount of certainty. Having said that, I would go for the slim!
