... As both Sony and TDK have already demonstrated 100GB recording, and Sony also 200GB, quite some time ago, it's more than a rumour - and provided that the market for recordable BD grows quickly we're not talking distant future ...

... I take it that by Terabite you mean Terabyte - not Terabit? With flash memory capacity doubling year on year and transfer speeds already up to around 40Mbps there could soon be a flash in the plan ...

Indeed Sony were saying at CES to expect 8GB Memory Stick Duo in 2006.

That seems just crazy to me.

Not that I am complaining

Cheers!

the whole flash thing just seems too ambitious, i couldn't imagine trying to round up enough $ to buy a terabyte of flash...i'll let somebody else do the estimation

... a gigabyte of flash was around £800 a year or so ago - now it's less than £30, so a terabyte is around £30,000. However, many applications only require a few gigabytes - and flash is re-usable. It's already being used in PCs to hold the OS and applications - making startup and application loading much faster and saving wear and tear on the hard drives, and a fast 8GB Memory Stick Duo could make for a very compact 1080p camcorder - giving around 40 minutes recording time at 24Mbps, for example. A BD recorder with built-in Memory Stick Duo slot could then transfer it to BDR for you ...

Solid State
Remember that DRAM was £25 per MB for quite a while - but with the massive computer market demand it's now approaching £25 per GB. A 1GB Memory Stick Duo for a pound could be quite interesting. Meanwhile, if flash memory capacity continues to double year on year we will have reached 128GB Memory Sticks by 2010 ...

Mmm... The reliability for flash memory on the long term ain't that good for backing up storage. However, that goes for all memory carriers... The higher the storage and performance, the lower the durability... But hey, I'm optimistic, I hope they'll break with that 'law' sometime.

Solid Performance ...
... I can think of a number of ways in which they can severely bend it - if not pummel it into submission ...
