The only thing I did "special" on my TV was run a color slide show (from webapalooza over at AVS Forum) for 90 minutes every night for the first 200 hours. Other then that, it was regular programming with black bars and all. No stretching, no special settings. I just enjoyed my TV.

The other thing to keep in mind is that plasma sets do not arrive to retailers with 0 hours of playback on them. In some cases, they can have been on in the factory long enough to be considered "broken in", depending on how much testing the manufacturer decides to do on the models.
I also remember hearing a rumor (bolded to emphasize) that a certain manufacturer would actually break all their sets in at their own factory before shipping them. I never found any documentation to support the claim, nor do I believe the source it came from, who in this case was biased as they were employed by said manufacturer. But, it may be possible, so I thought I'd throw it out there. |

For those people with image retention issues, you could download the break-in CD and run it for a couple of hours. The Cd can be downloaded from this site: http://www.eaprogramming.com/
The idea is to exercise the pixels with the same infomation (running a pattern to all pixels at the same time). Go here for more information: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=583089 Read the first post for contrast/brightness considerations. |

i also have the 4:3 bar retention and i am freaking out because it really bothers me during movie watching. i have been using my plasma on full screen for about a week and nothing! i also run the 'all-white' and 'scrolling bars' features on my plasma and still no luck
how long before i can rid myself of this? |

Even when I want to, I can't. I have my Panny set up to do so but apparently my cable box overrides it.

i use the lightest grey bars and i still have major retention
only when the background is pure black though...when movement occurs or when a hint of colour reaches the edges, the retention disappears i would like to get rid of this ASAP! its so distracting when watching a movie |
