The MFW-15 is an awesome sub for the money, but a decent amount of people have had issues with them, so I'd be cautious. Apparently the issues have been fixed since May/June-ish, so hopefully it's a newer one or a good older one.

I agree. I think now chances are you will get a great product. There is still the ocassional egg, but overall they have improved their production and replaced the old amps with the new ones. However, there is still a small amount of caution needed when something like this happens to any company.

Yeah and apparently they're great with customer service as well, and the owner actually frequents a lot of forums, etc. which is totally cool. I've heard of a lot of people getting their problems fixed with their subs pretty quickly, which from my personal experience recently with ED, that's extremely good to know. I called ED and sub was up and running in 4 days with a new amp, great service!

I even heard that he posted a public apology for everything that happened. I know they kind of got screwed by their amp supplier, but they sort of dropped the ball when this all came to a head. Unfortunately, it seemed thay did not have a good business plan for when and if this kind of thing would happen. But they do seem to have gotten their act together now, and lets face it, these really are great subs!

That's pretty cool of him. Yeah they're awesome from what I've heard. Sometime in the near future I hope to get a place with a dedicated HT room and I want to upgrade my speakers and throw some dual MFW-15's in!

Thanks all!

From what I gathered about this 15" has a has an 4-yr warrenty.

Also the owner said both his duals are from the beginning and has not had any problems. Of course I am only looking to buy one of them, not two

Seeing/Hearing is believing, go check them out. Your instincts should tell you if it looks and sounds good to you. At the price he if offering, if it is as good as advertised, you got yourself a great sub at a great price.

You know you're over doing the high end stuff a bit when you read this thread's title as "Got $450,000, now which sub?"--and aren't shocked by the price tag (I was expecting to read comments about Wilson Audio's sub, or one of the other high end speaker manufactures)!

I think I'd better take my meds... :-)

Not worried about price, but of course I am aware of these prices, but my main concern is "you get what you pay for" seems to be more important to me. And just because you pay more for it; To me it really does not mean it is better .

Ok.... time to take your meds

It is a good deal. But, I would check to see if the warrenty will transfer to you in the sale. I don't think it does. If not I would find out if it has the new amp and if not see if he will call and ask for one. Even if the current amp is running solid it would bring you piece of mind to have the new one handy if it ever fails.

Btw, AV123 extended the warranty of the MFW-15 to 4 yrs.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to add that you will NOT be dissapointed in the MFW-15's performance.

I think I'll call AVS today and confirm. If not transferable, I will pass on it.

I do know that the owner said that he does not have the new amp version (he has dual MFW-15's). He said his order was from the very initial production batch and said that AV123 started having problems with amps that were manufactured later. I dunno, I'll see whats up (fingers crossed).

If it does have the new amp I would still consider getting it at $400 even without the transferable warranty. That is a really good price. It would cost $829 shipped to get a new one now.

I agree with Stimpy, at less than 1/2 the MSRP shipped, it is worth a look. Subs can easily last over 5 years and then some if taken care of. If you check it out and it sounds and looks good, I would have to give this some serious consideration, even without a warranty.

If it has the amp from the very first batch it should be fine. If I'm not mistaken it was a later batch that had the flaky amps. Definitely check and see if that warranty is transferable though.

I actually posted my inital though on this sub vs. Duals and then compared it to the memory of my old Cadence CSX15.

*** but I edited and removed my comments (MFW-15 vs. CSX15) on it b/c I didn't want to be harsh on a $700.00 sub. So, until I get this 100+ # freak into my home, I will not say anything about it. My buddy does own my old cadence and once I get moved into our home, I will have him bring it over***

I am a simple guy that loves simple and love budget. I would honestly never pay $500 or even $1000 on any sub, EVER!! But for $375.00, I felt it was worth it

Right now the MFW-15 is not hooked up and is stored away in a climate control storage. Until we move out of this townhome we're in. I am not even going to attempt to put this in here right now.
I would be wasting my time and my lower back and would be upsetting my neighbors. I don't need that right now . So this weekend we went looking at houses and are officially back in the market to purchase a home or leasing one.

All I can say is after hearing the demo the Duals sounds nice, but one of the subs kind of popped when bottom'ing out and the one that popped a little also had the ground loop hum. Both of the amps was @ the 1/2 mark. After my initial thought, I thought it was time to hear only one MFW-15. The one closer to the corner of the wall and didn't pop.

While listening to some mixes I had, the power on these amps are pushing this subs really hard @ 1/2 power on the amp. Also I kept hearing the woofer and I guess that is good in movies, but since I wanted to hear music, I turned down the amp little less then half and the sub came to life and really felt the sub, but I didn't care to hear the sub (makes sense?), so turning it down helped out. We didn't change any of the +/- DBs setting on his receiver, but I got the idea / hint on how this puppy will do in my HT / music lagoon.

Sorry, no pictures right now, but I have this one that the owner posted:
