If it is 1080i at 50hrtz (sorry for mixing terms up above), it will look notably worse then 1080p 24hrtz in my experience, also if 1080i 50hrtz people in the us will not be able to play it (or such is my understanding).

I can't say so from my experience. And I can't see why it should either, since 1080i50 doesn't have less picture information than 1080p24. It may depend on your system of course, but a proper 1080i50 encode shouldn't look worse than 1080p24 if it's properly deinterlaced. If the source is 50i video material, 1080i50 would/should be the way to go for example, and it won't/shouldn't look worse than 1080p24.

In theory that is correct, but I've always found it to produce a softer image.

Yeah I know.... I REALLY want to get rid of my bulky US packaging from the DVD release of this movie and replace it with a nice clean Blu-ray that actually works in the USA WITH subtitles.

All this negative PQ talk worries me...
Amelie surely deserves the best possible transfer!
I hope we'll eventually get a beautiful BD...

I pre-ordered it. Since Disney is dragging their feet on Blu ray we may never see it released in the states.

And if Miramax released it, they would probably give the English Dub DTS-HD MA and the French audio, like, mono lol. It's cool that I can get it from Amazon US rather than trying to import it for outrageous shipping charges.

This film is amongst my top 10 of all time, love this film. I've been waiting for a Blu ray release since I bought my first player over 2 years ago. This will due for now, and if Disney releases it and is worth the upgrade I will buy it again. Thanks for posting this.

If your video card supports it.

I have a Nvidia geforce 8600 gt

On the Nvidia Control Panel, it only shows a minimum of 59 Hertz, for 1680x1050 resolution [60hz max], which is what I use, and nothing below that for any other resolution option.

I couldn't find anything searching via google, either. Is there any workaround?

There's nothing but speculation to suggest that the release wont be 1080p, maybe just wait a few days for confirmation.

I would say based on the fact that some American stores are selling the import that it is likely to be 1080p.

I'm not sure, but I read the french release sucked in the PQ department.
