You should definitely get a service plan or a replacement plan. My first PS3 kept locking up. This is the first generation and no one knows what will happen down the line. They are not that expensive.
If mine breaks, I take it to Best Buy and they hand me a new one. Nice! |

My thoughts.
At $100 from best buy, thats really high. Its pure profit for them, as so few break. if 1 out of 50 breaks, and they make 4900 to every $500 they ahve to spend to replace yours. Thats a ton of profit. But, that asside, I buy a lot of electronics. Almost everything works for at least 3 years before it ever breaks, which is near or past any extended warranty. So, I never buy them. As I look back on the 30 or 40 items I've gotten that I COULD have gotten a warrenty on, maybe one or two would have been eligble that went bad. I've probably saved thousands by not buying the warrenty on any of them, and thus, whatever DOES break, I can just buy, again.. new. and I'm still way ahead. my .02 worth. |

I agree with that, as I usually don't buy the service plans unless it's on a very expensive item (I got a pretty sweet upgrade to the TV I have now by having the service plan), but seeing as how the ps3 would be a straight replacement, I find more value in it.
