i cant remember being followed while shopping for blu rays, but a few weekends ago, i was accused of stealing a foam cooler from a supermarket, i was getting two and using the self checkout, and rather than take them apart, i was just going to scan one twice, the lady ran over and was like, "you need to scan both of those" even though they were both already on the receipt, then she felt dumb

Why is it I get tailed walking around a store when I don't want to buy anything in particular but when I am ready to buy something, no one is around?

The security guys at Best Buy will ignore any other person walking in the door but they always give me the up and down and are sure to say hello to me.

I'm not a small guy but I don't think I look like a rabble rouser either...overweight, balding white guy - maybe my cargo shorts draw too much attention because of the extra pockets?

I remember being in the checkout line at Best Buy when suddenly a woman came out of the security room screaming while being held by Best Buy security. Then some customer butted in yelling "let go of her", which of course the security proceeded to do. She, while still screaming, runs away and the security and customer start getting into it. You could just tell this chick was either high as a kit or mentally unstable. I've never an entire store just stop dead in its tracks. It was the most entertaining thing I've seen while shopping.

Working in retail selling home theater gear, etc I learned that it doesn't always matter what one is dressed in. The thuggish looking kid in baggy pants and cross color t-shirt could very well be the biggest sell of the week. In short I treated every customer respectfully and in turn I made out very nicely

Happened once. Long time ago I was at a variety store where I got anime merch. My second trip there the owner/manager/somebody(?) kept galring at me as I looked through the things there. Then she started talking to someone in clear audible range of me some nonsense about how 'we prosecute shoplifters into police cars' and kept blatantly following me around. After all that, I legitemately and legally brought a couple Steve Austin shirts to the counter and bought them. And she was still being nasty, just containing it slightly better. Never been there since.

The first time I noticed it my wife and I were in a Claire's and the girl stayed about 10 ft away and stared at us - never said a word to us.

Another time we were in JC Penny's and I kneeled down to tie my shoe and a guy came sprinting up on me from no where. When he saw what I was doing he just slowly walked off like he'd just just been passing through.

I can understand wanting to prevent shoplifting but they should make an effort not to be *******s when they're wrong.

These are all funny stories. You guys should all call them out on it like fireman325's wife.

Like klac said, I can understand they are trying to prevent shoplifting. I also think they should try not to be so damn obvious. I can see how some may feel insulted by the insinuations.

Yeah they watch.... it's their job

The only time I was "Stalked" was when wearing my fireman jacket in the winter...... didn't plan on making a trip to Best-Buy, but decided to stop in..... it's a pretty huge coat, so their suspicions weren't out of the ordinary..... besides, you don't see a lot of people shopping dressed like that!

Probably, but who cares? They can follow your ass all they want, you don't have anything to hide.

I really get a kick out of going to a high end retail store and browsing. It just sucks cause I am Hispanic and I know I am just getting stereotyped. I have even bought something just so I didnt look like all the others who walk in and dont buy shit.
I've never felt this way at BB, and I used to go and browse (without buying anything) a lot of times...however, Dillards is a VERY different story. Maybe it's because the cashiers want to make the sale, but they are always looking at me and asking if I need help or if I need to try that on...I always feel harassed there but I like that they tend to have good sales every once in a while.

I have been in tons of electronic stores and never felt like I was being watched by anyone. Now!! however might look around if somebody is watching me for security reasons.

I don't think I'm being watched. However (and please correct me if I'm wrong) just because you don't see a person watching you, doesn't mean you're not being watched, right?

What I mean is, and especially in the electronics stores or sections, isn't a lot of the surveillance being done via closed-circuit cameras?

When I was a buyer, we had a guy we called the "VHS Vacuum" (this was 10 years ago)

With the LP guy standing next to him, a GOOD LP guy mind you, he could still do it, and he'd leave little piles of shrinkwrap in his wake.

They caught his buddy, but we never saw him doing it.
