I don't know that I would ever throw one out, but faced with a copy with a slip cover and one without one of the same movie, I'd choose the one without the slip. I've never liked that look personally. But that's my decision, the store I'm shopping at should not be making the decision for me. If the company released it with a slip cover, that is how it should be sold.

I used to really not like slip covers because I loved when all my Blu Ray cases looked the same (even though there were minor differences in case designs.)

Then... the first Transformers movie didn't look right without the slip cover. Then I started getting more and more custom packaging like the Matrix digi-book thingie.

So... I just put all the slip cover and custom packaging off to it's own area and that works.

The Walmart anti-thieft stuff damaged the slip cover but not much.

This release doesn't look complete without the slip cover. They should not be throwing these away.

They only have a limited amount of those stupid plastic anti-theft things...ask if they have ones in the back with the slipcovers and you should be good to go!

The question here, is WHY? Why would they take the extra time and work of removing the slipcovers? It's not like they take up that much more room on the shelf racks.

And this reminds me that when I bought a copy or the original Transformers film on BD from a 3rd party seller on Amazon Marketplace, didn't get the slip cover which contained the "Transformers" title on it. And so I was wondering for a while if I had actually got a home-made printed cover. The spine kinda looks that way. But I realized that I was just missing the slipcover.

I don't understand the point of the slipcovers to begin with. I always throw them out and prefer to buy them without. Seems like needless extra packing in my opinion.

Maybe for some of us the slipcover doesnt mean anything. but for me they are VERY IMPORTANT if present. I know it will gonna sound sick but its the truth, I have bought some of my DVDs again just to get the slipcover version.

Yes it happend. For example TinkerBell dvd without the cover looks totally naked and something missing but look when you have the coverslip how it looks beautiful on the shelf. I have ordered the Blu ray of the same but will never discard the DVD because of the cover!!!!

Disney are THE BEST in producing the most attractive covers. They should continue the trend with all their blu rays.

Your welcome.
This is what I ALWAYS do now. Because if I got a dvd or blu ray without the cover then I know I'm going to buy the same with its cover which will doubles my cost. so always ask

It is good to know Target is removing slip covers. I will avoid going there when I shop for movies. I have noticed my local Best Buy has slips on their inventory.

The Wal-Mart by me uses the plastic anti-theft cases without removing or causing damage to the slipcovers. I don't understand why some stores feel the need to throw slipcovers away to use these cases.

The Walmart near me used to throw them out....till I sought out the manager and told him what was happening. They don't do it anymore

i dont think you got a hiome-made cover art.

i recently bought my copy of transformers 1 from bestbuy & it came without the slipcover.

and my friends copies all come withe transparent slipcover with the product info printed on them. i hated that, and i glad i got the proper printed covert art for my copy.

this is the only case where i was happy NOT to have a slipcover.

and my nearest best buy seems to discard slipcovers too. the only title i saw with a slipcover was snow white.

It seems each retail location is allowed to decide on whether to keep slipcovers or not. A Target store I visit occasionally has recently altered their policy and started removing every slipcover before it ever hits the shelves. Most of the Walmarts I see leave them on, but certain titles seem to lose the slipcover there.

The choice to keep or throw away a slipcover should belong to the consumer not the retailer. How much trouble is it to throw away a slipcover if you don't want it? It's a much bigger hassle for people who want to keep them and have to look for a copy that is intact. The bottom line is these come from the distributors with a slipcover, and they are meant to be sold that way. This is very obvious when the title ,movie description, rating info is only on the slipcover like Ironman and Transformers 2 or when there is a limited lenticular slipcover like Incredible Hulk or Watchmen.

I read in this thread that some retailers are throwing away slipcovers for Transformers ROTF. This makes no sense since the movie description etc. is on the slipcover and the cover underneath is just a picture. No slipcover for any movie should be discarded by anyone but the end consumer as it is part of the retail packaging that we pay for.
I was at walmart tuesday and UP and Monsters inc both had slip covers tron out. I went to target instead. Not only did they have the slip covers but monsters inc had a "$10 coupon good right now" ON IT when you buy both.

+1. To my knowledge, no B&M stores around me removes the slipcovers from their inventory; if they did, I will not patronize them.

I remember reading that the point of slipcovers is to entice people to buy movies when they are new releases, instead of when they've been out for a while and the price has gone down. This is why slipcovers are limited to the first pressing.

Not just retailers throwing them away but BD owners too. Ive been looking (and badly) for The Strangers slipcase cover @ retail stores and no lucky, yet through here I found out that many users just throw away these nice looking slipcases. While others REALLY want to consume theirs to their collection.
