If you really like movies, then you'll really appreciate them with a quality sound system. I would suggest saving your money for an Onkyo, Yamaha, or Sony HTIB (Home theater-in-the-box). Find one with 5.1 speakers and a receiver that can process lossless audio as a starter. That will at least get you into the game, and you can upgrade later, after you're through school and working. Once you get that squared away, you can resume BD purchases.

Good Luck!
Haha, thanks. Yeah I do think it is a good idea to start collecting at a young age. By the time in out of college I estimate that my collection will be in the hundreds. I need the basics at this point. Speakers being my first.

I agree with that! A nice Onkyo HTiB will be easily upgradable if he ever gets the urge to get better speakers. I personally have had really bad luck with Sony HTiB receivers in the past. Had two die in two years.... both had HDMI inputs that went bad.

To each-his-own, but I think you'd greatly benefit from allocating some of your media funds into getting at least a "Basic" sound-setup.
Ehh... i'm very cost conscious, you would probably laugh at my $99 ilo dvd recorder as well, using my s-video connection to my cable box receiver. Or the fact I was still using vhs up until 03-04. (as a secondary) Or possibly the fact that half of my dvd collection I recorded off tv.

The HDTV i bought was also an RCA display model at walmart 32" I paid $300 for it. Not everyone invests alot of money in home entertainment, I was one of those people "watching" to see who won between HD DVD and Blu-ray and then "waiting" for players to go in the $150 range.

The durabrand 5.1 speakers I have are a decent step up from the integrated tv speakers... although they probably aren't up to the standards of most of the people on this forum.

I have a big collection and Front speakers. Just need to save some money for a HDTV, rear speaker and a sub. The sub is the last thing I worried about getting is a sub.

Like most on the thread have said, go with the speakers. Watch some of your blus without the sur sound and then watch a blu with all the speakers going, it's almost like a diff movie.

The hd595's aren't very demanding headphones and should be easy enough to drive (though may I recommend you just get a hd555 and mod them, as they will be cheaper and identical to the 595 [and the mod is very easy]). Though I have no idea about how good the Onkyo 805 amplifier used for the headphones is (not many are very good in newer recievers, but once again, the hd595 isn't very demanding). To be honest though, if your going to be using the headphones for gaming or movies and can't afford a dedicated headphone amp (eg: the HD600 is hard to drive and you are probably looking at around $500 for a descent amplifier to drive it) I would be looking more into a headphone like the byerdynamic dt880.

Mine are set-up in a dedicated headphone manner, in that I run optical out of my ps3 (which is all you need for 2 channel lossless sound), to a Cambridge Audio Dac Magic, then balanced out to my mini3 balanced headphone amp which I plug my headphones into (I don't own a reciever per se, but my cambridge audio dac magic acts somewhat as one [for audio at least]). My bass shakers are fed audio from the cambridge audio dac magic rca (unbalanced) outputs to an external amp which the bass shakers plug into.

I'm upgrading my mini3 balanced amp to a a betta22 balanced amp, and am looking at purchasing a hd800 sometime in the future. I use all mogami cables in my set-up. Hope this helps, i'm happy to answer any other questions etc, you may have.
