Anything about Marantz I should know? Seems your not the first one to sell theirs... are there issues with them.?
None that i'm aware of. Pretty trouble free receiver as far as I know. Pitbullmike had the sr5003 and sold his and now is regretting it and shown interest in mine.

+1. Ear plugs are a must...especially with that new sub he just built.

Here is the answer to my question about HDMI switching/Repeating.

Quote:
If you want multichannel sound to play through your home theater system, you’ll want a receiver with an HDMI repeater. Rather than just passing through the HDMI signal, a receiver with a repeater will process the audio portion of the signal coming in, and then send on ("repeat") the video portion to the HDMI output going to your TV.
the 1.3a on the 4003 means it will pass the 1.3a video signal on to the HDTV. the 1.1 repeating means that it will process audio based on the 1.1 specs, basically that means it will process LPCM(v1.1 standards), not High Bit Rate formats ie. dts HD MA, and DD THD which are compliances of the v1.3a standard. Basically I will get v1.3a video signals, but not v1.3a audio processing.

I take it the 4003 doesn't upconvert either... although I don't have any sources to upconvert at the momment, so that is irrelevant.

Hmmm, decision.

Well if you could get the 5003 close to the price of the 4003 I would suggest you go for it. Don't get me wrong i love my 4003 but last i read lurking around you were interested in music and you might venture to SACD with hdmi 1.1 I think you cant use HDMI for sacd playback. I was more into 2 channel music before loved the way marantz and rotel combo but that was a long time ago and lost that system to my Ex.

So yeah my vote would go for the 5003 if its within your reach. After adding a power amp on that system should take 2-3 years i guess before you start itching on upgrading the reciever hopefully you have a budget for a prepro then. Best of luck on whatever you choose on.

Yes, you are absolutely correct, I still want the Oppo 981, but I talked with the CS people at Oppo and they said it will output SACD via HDMI as a PCM track, that was something they just added.

Well, in all honesty the wife is being a little tight this holiday season, unlike last year... stupid economy. If name your price is gonna sell a brand new 5003 for $450 she would go for it, that is her limit.. and I think she liked the offer from Sean better. Although she probably doesn't care what receiver I have, as long as I stop upgrading them...

Pretty nice of oppo to have that feature then. But the reason why i suggesting the higher HDMI version is I have listened to SACD with my friends rig. He had a marantz 8002 hooked to MF power amps. i dont know if it is just me but there is a diffrence in sound when its being played through HDMI and through analog. Not really a good or bad difference but just different. source player btw was oppo 983. Oh and another plus is 5003 has audyssey and basically more bells and whistles just dont expect much from marantz with GUI. Id still say its best to audition whether its worth it or not when i got my reciever i wanted to 6003 but sadly my better half only approved the budget for the 4003 and its so hard to find used marantz gear in my part of the world. That is the part i love about this hobby the auditioning part bad part is when i start dreaming of future upgrades that is when i start to spend

I'm using a SR6003 & love it to death! If you go with the SR5003, you'll be very happy. Will be your last receiver purchase, especially with the pre-outs.
Have you tried the 6ave.com name your price sale? Its $548 on their site, you might be able to get it lowered.

I would jump all over that 5003 if I were you - couldn't be happier with my sr-4002 - chose it over the 5002 because of price and didn't need Sirius. Am using the pre-outs with my Rotels to biamp my mains for when I want to do some 2 channel listening but still plenty of "real" power for the HT surrounds
