True but he's been here for 3-4 months and shouldn't be that new to the discussion. Have we missed anything in the other threads which asked the same question? If yes, I want to know about it.

I think it's more like being at the top of the 10 meter diving board and not sure if they can do it. In that case I will say:
"You can do it!!!"

Are you serious. I hate saying this in a Blu-ray forum but Blu-ray really is the better format. Bigger space, more films, better qulity. And if you get a HD-DVD player, it will last at max 2 years, where as Blu-ray will last till the next format.

And you can get the best console out at the moment, and the cheapest Blu-ray player all in one! Great deal!

I still think a massive bombardment of quality titles will end this quicker than later.

Agree.

This fall is shaping up to be a HUGE win for blu-ray.. As soon as Fox anounces some of its top titles this fall, its all over for HD-DVD

hmmm...you've been asking ?'s like this since March, It almost seems like failed attempts to rub in what Universal has on HD-DVD, that we do not have on blu-ray(see link below), not realizing that for every must have Universal has on HD-DVD there are 10 must haves exclusively on blu-ray. If you are really interested in making a decision go blu already.

You are telling me that you saw a presentation of HD-DUD ok,Can i ask what movie you had seen? Another question did you see a presentation for BD and i will not go far away but i would like you to see this presentation on the PS3.

Then you will decide by urself who is better than the other.

Why BD is better and it is the only choice to watch high definition!

PQ wise higher bit rate codec whereas HD-DVD cannot touch this higher bit rate.
We have PCM AUDIO in other words you are immerged totally in experiencing the true sound of an advanced theater whereas again HD-DUD cant even touch this experience.

The real examples of these two criteria are POTC and Casino Royale sure there are many movies to go but i insist on these two titles because they will learn you why BD better than perfect.

PQ is about equal between formats. If you like universal buy HD-DVD otherwise buy Blu-Ray because you can get about everything but universal movies on Blu-Ray.

Think about it as this.... BD has the most potential. In my opinion Blu-ray is better than HD DUD.

Just look at all the upcoming title and studio support for Blu-ray: Cars, Spider-Man Trilogy, Transformers, etc... If you go HD-DUD, you will NOT be seeing any of these titles on your HT rig.

What does that tell you?

EDIT: If you write back with "I don't care about those titles", then I think your posting on the wrong boards.

If you got the money, get the LG HD media player that can play both HD-DVD and Blu-ray.

But unfortunately for your friend, Blu-ray will be the format that takes over DVD. Why?

HD-DVD is not future proof. Blu-ray is capable of scaling to 200GB discs. HD-DVD's 30GB dual layer disc, and phantom triple layer 45GB Disc have all been trumped by the now very readily availible 50GB Dual Layer Blu-ray disc.

Hardware sales. HD-DVD fans swear that they are winning, while only Toshiba and the faliure known as Xbox 360 Hd-DVD add on are the only HD-DVD players on the market, while Sony's Standalone and PS3, and Samsung, Panasonic Give a message to customers that Blu-ray is superior in every way.
Even LG would not make just an HD-DVD player. It's a Blu-ray player with legacy HD-DVD support.

If Toshiba was really out pacing all the variety that Blu-ray has, don't you thing that there would be more 3rd party devs making players for it?

Default I know it's a tough decision but...

if you look at it from a business perspective, you can't see Blu-ray going away. With the market share they have now, big time releases coming this fall, and the studio support they have--I just don't see how HD DVD will become the defacto HD format.

You forgot to mention Phillips also makes a Blu-ray player, and also coming in the Autumn will be Japanese manufacturer Funai (Sylvania, Magnavox, etc.) as well as Sharp, not to mention the rumoured Blu-ray-only player from Denon, and the third generation Samsungs.

you come to the wrong place to ask this question. we are mostly BD supporter.

If you want to know why I support BD. i'll tell you why.
Disney and PlayStation is definitely my reason.
higher capacity
more support than hd dvd in terms of movie studio.
supported by Hewlett-Packard (with HD DVD)
