Yeah I agree, this movie's prolly in my top ten of all time, and if it was a decent box set made with a little thought and some finesse I'd be all over it like stink on a monkey.

As it stands I just find it a little 'meh'.

Looks like Australia might just finally get a 1080p/24 release of Pulp Fiction and not the shithouse 1080i/50 release that subsequent collections have been stuck with.with
There is a re-release of Pulp Fiction (Sony, not Roadshow) and there is a release of a 9 movie Tarantino “Ultimate” collection.

I imported the UK release back in 2011 when I bought this 8 movie set:

Only to find it had the 1080i/50 transfer.

So, hopefully, Aussie’s will get a decent transfer at the correct film speed and not have to listen to songs sped-up, half an octave too high in pitch and the voices of actors sounding too high.

It's from Paramount, Universal Sony are distributing it on their behalf... All the other 1080p/24 versions currently out there are shithouse too, just a little less (to Roadshow's credit, we were one of the first countries to get Pulp Fiction on Blu-ray, most others countries didn't get it until a couple of years after us). Pulp Fiction needs a remastered disc release.

Yeah i don't know how reviewers gave this a 4.5 for PQ when there is clear sharpening and DNR on the master.

Pretty sure I saw reports of a UHD being planned, whether that's still a thing I'm not sure. This movie is up there with T2 for receiving shitty home video treatments, but then again the US/UK Lionsgate transfer was supposedly director-approved. So it's quite likely that he just likes it being a bit ugly.

The 9 movie box set has been taken down from kicks and ezydvd, it might come back. What we really need is a Tarantino 4K box set, not more re-releases of the same films with the same transfers.

A 4K release of his work would be great and a Day One buy for me. But I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Still waiting on the Japanese cut of Kill Bill on BD (Unrated).
I now only watch the Japanese NTSC DVD upscaled to 1080p/24. Once you watch the Crazy 88 scene uncut and in colour (and the anime, and the “Give me you other hand” Sophie trunk scene), the US MPAA cut just doesn’t cut it.

Japan version vs. International Version:https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=1588

Even B&W wasn’t enough for the MPAA and scenes were cut!

Touché. PQ is marginally better on the UK transfer. However, the biggest improvement is the 24fps transfer, not a 50i transfer, which is essentially not much better than an upscaled PAL DVD.

The worst thing about the Aussie BD is the PAL speed-up.
Having listened to the soundtrack for years, I was looking forward to finally hearing the music at the correct speed/pitch. An import was the only way to resolve this.

I know it's a Miramax habit but do they really need to push the fact it won Oscars? It's an iconic movie now for sure.

It's not just them, the local covers for The Fighter and The Hurt Locker were also pretty obnoxious about it. Although it's even sillier when they make a bigger deal about the nominations than the one that it actually won.

It at least makes sense on newer movies.

Tarantino has a habit of winning Best Screenplays (and deservedly so). And some thought PF had an outside chance of winning Best Picture even, but on the night, by the time Hanks and Zemeckis had won Actor and Director respectively, it was pretty obvious that Gump was going to win.

I watched that night and was rooting for either Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption or Quiz Show to win Best Picture (one of the strongest years ever IMHO).
I will never forget Samuel L. Jackson’s reaction to losing Best Supporting Actor.

Can’t believe that Shawshank won nothing that year. I feel that PF, Shawshank and Quiz Show were all more deserving than Forrest Gump. All three have withstood the test of time, with Gump feeling a little dated now.

It's often a gimmick or flavour of the month that wins those things. Or some great director finally gets recognition for a movie that's far from their best. I haven't watched the Oscars since the 90s.

It's because Forrest Gump is a nice movie.

Picked up the new Pulp Fiction from JB today, unfortunately it appears to be the same old 1080i transfer
