That was the case just about everywhere, but the gas gouging of last year put an end to that for the most part. There will always be those with lots of money who don't care about gas prices though.

Ok then, so we're in agreement. And I'm not being sarcastic here, people who buy trucks when they're not even a locksmith, or need their truck for any specific job other than hauling their own butts from A to B are........It just doesn't make sense. I use the truck for work, and I love it for that. (Now, because it's an '09 and the previous one was unbearable.) But when I'm just driving around town not needing a truck, I'll use my car. Ease of access is what I'm looking at and sometimes something as simple as needing to park in a "compact car" parking slot is when I'm glad I've got my TDI(had to throw it in) Jetta.

Yeah it's an '04 but I can't imagine right now how long I'll have it. I'm thinking at least 500k. Some people with older, less advanced, 70's models have put in excess of 600 and even 750 on theirs. Definitely the best purchase I ever made.

I still wish the Mercedes my dad had were the old 70's turbo diesels but he ended up with the 450SEL which is a ridiculous V8. I hated driving that car as my first car.

I still see tons of the old Mercedes around with their diesels going strong. Plus, a lot of people here in So Cal have converted them to biodiesel so they can fill them up for free basically. The only downside is your exhaust smells like french fries
