The black level's on the UN55B8500 are better then the Panasonic V10 and over all picture quality is better as long as you seat in the center for most your TV viewing. The Panasonic V10 is a better choice for those that watch most of their TV viewing off axis. The UN55N8500 like all other LCD flat screens picture looks poor off axis compared to a plasma.

At over $1,000 more for the same screen size for marginally better PQ requiring you to be dead centre I think that's a pretty poor recommendation.

The Panasonic V10 is a better choice for those that don't enjoy throwing money away needlessly!

Geez- so you won't be able able to watch Rocky XXX or the latest film for morons about some toy for a few weeks. Go bike riding. Listen to good music. Read a book (gasp!) Relax.

i was thinking about buying the sammy 55" 8000 led instead, but dont feel right about it. i dont want to get the lower s model cause i heard the v10 series is the newer better model. i dont know what to do being without a tv more than 50" large is kind like the DT's for me

i even called a few online places that carry panny plasma's and they dont have any either. damn this is really getting me

I'd check this out. even though it's the previous 65" model, the price was 2499.00 and I heard they were running a special last weekend on the set for 1999.00 This is a fantastic display (I've had one since April) and I love it. not sure of your price range but it might be worth looking into.

Default i pulled the trigger

i went to best buy at lunch time today and talked to some guys in magnolia and they told me that the panasonic 58" V10 is discontinued. my 5 local best buys can not get them anymore. something about supply and demand and that they are not high sellers for panny. the 50" & 54" sell way more.

so i thought panny 54"v10 or samsung PN58B860 58" 1080p Plasma. well my BB had an open box sammy there and i got it for $2200, came with stand & remote, but no manual (can get online). brought it right home and set it up the best i could tonight and man it is amazing.

i know how panny's rock and i had my heart set on a panny 58" v10, but with all the bad news and not being able to get one. i thought about getting the panny 54" v10, but now i go down in size. so i was like bigger size and very slight less quality or smaller size and slightly more quality??
well size won on this one. i feel with the sammy i am getting a really nice plasma with near same quality as the panny and i think overall i will be very happy with it. here is the link below to the sammy i bought.

Not sure why this FUD is being spread, as the 58V10 is certainly not being discontinued. Supply and demand, yes. The supply is short and the demand high, hence not having any in stock. There have been no announcements from Panasonic regarding any sort of discontinuation of any models, and several members have contacted Pany customer service and were told they are making these as fast as they can.

Personally, I would have waited, and I certainly would not have purchased an open-box plasma. Too much could be potentially wrong with it. Regardless, I hope nothing is wrong with yours and you enjoy it for years to come.

not sure what you mean but i dont really fear open box items. i have bought plenty in the past and always seemed to be ok. some people like to buy new and pay full price. i dont see anything wrong with it personally.

as far as fud, its NOT me speading it. this is what i was told by a magnolia person and 2 others concured as i was standing there. wether its true or not remains to be scene. if they are not discontinuing them than where are all of them? seems like the 54" & 50" are available everywhere, but no 58 or 65 inch????

oh well and like i said i have 45 days to return it. if the panny is available in my area than i will return it, as i said the panny 58v10 was my first choice.

Some electronics would be okay, but with a plasma you need to be careful. Why was it an open box, and why was there no remote? If were simply a customer return, I'd expect everything to be there. Since it's not, then I expect this was a display model. If it was, then you have no idea how many hours are already on the set or whether it was 'abused' (left in torch mode, IR/Burn-in, etc.).

It's good that you have a 45 day period to return it. In that time, you should be able to tell if anything is seriously wrong with the set. You may want to search the web to see if there is a way to access the service menu so you can check the hours on it.
