Miramax = Buena Vista, they bought them up. In effect it's just a label now.

They also don't encodes they don't have the rights to, such as R2UK, R2FR, R4 etc. If they do the encodes for the R3TW/HK releases that's also new, as there certainly used to be quite a big difference in the encoding and authoring.

Yes I know... but I mean they are also made in NTSC for TV for those that are not made on PAL, and (unless I used the wrong term) PAL is not compatible with our tvs and would have to be converted to NTSC.
But I suppose that if an NTSC formatted video is released on Blu-ray, it would either be up-converted or something else.
Can Blu-ray play SD signals in NTSC? or is it in another format?

Miramax still handles all of their own campaigns, and hires all their own authoring companies. Just like NewLine is operationally independant of WB

That is correct. They took over encoding for IVL (and the rest of R3) after the Kiki/Totoro assfests, and they've always done the R2 (JPN) discs.

firstly i would love to see thier films in HD, they would look even more beautiful...

Earthsea isnt getting a US release anytime soon because of the rights issue between the company that made the US tv series.
However I live in the UK & Earthsea is out in the cinema next week and i cant bloody wait!
