Are you only using DVDpedia to track your Blu-ray collection? Part of my wanting to switch to DL2 is because of its ability to track any media, not just movies.

DVDpedia does have the iSight integration, so that should work out just fine.

What sucks is that Bruji, who makes DVDpedia, also has Bookpedia, Gamepedia, and CDpedia... but at $18 EACH, it's expensive and inconvenient for me to use a separate program for each.

+1

there have been quite a few times I have also looked up to confirm whether I owned a title or it was in a "wishlist." I know that sounds bad, but when you get over 250 titles, you sometimes loose track. Or is that old age? Anyway, the online database helps.

I use Movie Label on my PC and Delicious Library on my Mac. I like Delicious because I can track my movies if I let someone borrow them and it can send them an email to bring you back your movie. I also use the website DVDaficnado and this website

I'm another DVD Profiler user and I love it. I'm probably a bit over-zealous in my support of it, but I've tried pretty much all other options out there, and DVD Profiler simply has the most features.

Part of this has to do with it being plugin friendly, and so there's lots of users that have developed optional plugins that let you do things with the program that it can't do out of the box.

For example, I'm using the "Awards Viewer" plugin so that for each of my movies I can find out what Awards it's won with the click of a button. Right now it's got 63 different Awards - from the big ones like the Academy Awards and Golden Globes, to smaller ones like Screamfest and Filmfare.

Another fun feature of DVD Profiler is that it can help you pick a movie to watch. You define what you're in the mood for (genre, year, running time, etc.) and it comes up with suggestions based on that.

As for why someone would want to use a database program like that... Well, there's lots of reasons:

- Being able to create stats. Name me a particular movie data point (genre, production year, studio, country, aspect ratio, rating, audio type, etc.) and chances are I can tell you exactly which and how many movies I have that matches it.

- Being able to create custom filmographies. Meaning, with the click of a button you can generate a list showing all of your movies in which a particular actor appears. Or that's directed by a particular director. Or edited by a particular editor. Etc.

- Being able to track when someone borrows a movie. And set it up so that it automatically e-mails that person if they haven't returned the movie by a particular date that you've set up.

- Being able to track when you (or anyone in your household) watch a movie.

- Being able to generate reports displaying whatever data you want. Particularly useful for insurance reporting, but good for many other things too.

- Being able to track where a movie is stored. Particularly useful for those who store their movies in CD binders instead of on the shelf.

- Being able to track how much you spent on each disc, again useful for insurance purposes.

- Being able to check your collection in your PDA, cellphone, or even iPod, to determine whether you already own a title or not.

The list goes on and on and it depends on the person, the size of their collection, and their needs what you would use it for.

Another thing I suppose should be mentioned to those who don't know if they want or need a DVD/Blu-ray tracking program:

You don't actually enter all the information yourself. At least in any of the good programs you don't. For example, with DVD Profiler you simply enter the UPC code and the appropriate profile is downloaded for you.

Note: You obviously CAN enter the information yourself. Or modify the existing information. Sometimes this is necessary if not everything about the movie is listed, or if something is listed in a way you don't like. E.g. if the movie Seven has had its title entered as Se7en and you prefer it without the number.

Yeah, I got DVDpedia through a friend. He has the rest of the set, but I was only interested in the DVD one.

With Delicious, I actually scanned in some books and a few CDs, but those were just the ones that happened to be within an arm's reach, just to test out how well it worked, when I first installed the program.

I wish Delicious would add some of the cool/useless stats that I posted above from DVDpedia. They don't really have much significance (if any), but I'm somewhat fascinated by stats.

I have an Excel sheet with every movie I've seen in the last ~5 years and continue to update it whenever I watch a movie. The main page includes basic info (year, runtime, country, and the ratings from a collection of places... IMDb, RottenTomatoes, my own rating etc), but I also included separate pages with graphs/charts, and a page listing all the "major" Oscar nominees and winners, so I can calculate the % of winners and nominees I've seen for best picture, director, actor/actress, screenplay (adapted and original), and the supporting actor/actress awards).

I was forced to learn a lot about Excel in b-school, so I figured I'd go home and put it to use.
