I gotta go with Natalie Portman. Several of the actors have turned in great performances outside of Star Wars (Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson, as well as Portman), but the acting within those three movies was consistently and notoriously bad.

When I think of the many fine actors in the prequels, I think first and foremost of Ewan McGregor - followed closely by Liam Neeson and Pernilla August.

But Ian McDiarmid is such a delight to watch - he brings all of his Shakespearean-trained gravitas to one of the key parts of the saga, which he also played in Return of the Jedi, and gives it all he's got. Watch how deliciously he moves from the feigned innocence of Senator Palpatine in the first movie to the evil no-holds-barred, lightsaber-wielding Emperor Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith.

And most importantly, don't forget that this whole thing was Lucas' idea of a homage to the B-movies and weekly matinee serials of the 30s and 40s. Those didn't really stand out for their fine acting, so maybe that explains a thing or two.

Ian McDiarmid, followed closely by Liam Neeson. Honorable mention goes to Ewan McGregor. I still think that was perfect casting. And Ray Park and Christopher Lee made great baddies. Anakin's mom was good too. There really were some good performances in the films now that I think about it.

I completely agree though I voted for Mcgregor because he was in such a majority of all 3 films and did a great job!

How could I forget Christopher Lee? You're right, he was an excellent choice.

I went with McGregor, he was excellent in all 3 movies and certainly kept up the wonderful role created by Alec Guiness. He did it with respect.

Who the hell voted for Darth Maul? The guy only had 2 lines of dialogue!

And Anakin and Padme votes, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Their performances are Razz-worthy.

For me, it was a close call between Jimmy Smitts and Christopher Lee, the only two characters who do not, at some point, have some sort of ridiculous, inane line. Smitts by a nose. (Tho I would've selected Neeson if he was available.)
