Btw, when i took my kids to see Fantastic Mr. Fox (great movie) this weekend, i noticed there was a poster for the next twilight movie, Eclipse, in the lobby. Release date was summer of 2010. They're cashing in before the fad wears out. Anyone have any predictions as to when the vampire thing will fade away? I predicted reality shows would die 7 years ago and look how that turned out.
So I guess New Line Cinema cashed in on Lord of the Rings before that fad wore out too?

The close release date (7-8 months) probably has more to do with the 2nd and 3rd movie being filmed together than trying to pump these out as quickly as possible. Harry Potter has been stretched out a lot, and it does just fine.

I think filming the movies together was most likely done because a) it's easier/cheaper (like LotR), and b) it keeps the young actors looking relatively similar across the movies, instead of aging a lot in between.

If you have the movie filmed already, there's no point in sitting on it forever.

They've mentioned the reason is a lot of the cast isn't meant to age (the vampires). So you're right.

I understand what you're saying about budget and continuity playing a role, but i don't remember LOTR releasing the entire trilogy in an 18 month span right in the middle of a fantasy/epic battle feeding frenzy. LOTR basically started that trend, and honestly i think the vampire thing is just an extension of that. It's just that the studios have run out of similar adaptations. (troy, 300, harry potter, narnia, etc.)
I don't blame the studios for doing what they're doing, because it makes good sense from a business standpoint. I'm just burnt out on the whole thing and wish it would stop.

I actually enjoyed the first movie, but the second movie was incredibly dull. They could have cut this feature down to 90 minutes without having to cut anything important. My "tween" daughter thought it was boring, too.

I may be dating myself, but I remember back when Vampires and Werewolves were the BAD GUYS.

I'd say that Star Wars started that trend.

If you're burnt out on the whole thing, then stop going to the theaters and buying Hollywood Blu-rays. While you're at it, cancel your cable since Hollywood gets money from that too... in fact, box up your High Def TV and send it to me, I'll make sure you don't get burnt out on it ever again {and all your blu-ray's too}

That'll show 'em.

$40 million at this time of year is actually pretty spectacular for a week 2.

True I suppose considering the first week total it would have a big drop, there was no way they would still make 90-100 millions on the second weekend.

I'm burnt out on vampire movies smartass, not movies in general. Obviously star wars "started" the whole thing, but there was about a 15 year gap between Jedi and FOTR and during that time i don't remember being subjected to a continuous barrage of star wars look alikes . I was referring more to the current trend that was obviously started by LOTR.

You just got to learn to ignore the "a cote" of such franchises. Even I, as a huge Star Wars fan get a little annoyed at the "fanboys". You just enjoy the movie if you like it and block out the weird stuff of the hardcore fans.

Same with mine. She says the books are better of course, but that hasn't prevented her from dragging us both to the first two movies and she's already said we'll be seeing Eclipse when it hits. The things we do for love.

The way I see it, I am definetly the kid of our relationship She put's up with a lot of my "fanboy" stuff and she never complaint. So if she want's me to take her see one movie during the year with romance and sparkling vampires I will gladly do it for her.

I don't understand all of the bashing....granted, the first two are not great films, but good entertaining flicks that look and sound great.

'Twilight' looks and sounds awesome on blu...it is what it is, and I expect the same for 'New Moon' when it comes out on blu.

Lighten up peeps

Well, that's the problem: They're not good movies, nor are they entertaining in the "popcorn" sense of the word. I could care less if they "look and sound great." That could be said about 90% of new BD's being released. Supposedly Eclipse will have more action. That would be nice. It is a vampire movie afterall.

Except they are good movies to the fans or people that like the movie. Just because you hate the movie doesn't mean it's a bad movie. I hate watchmen and 300 does that mean their bad movies no I just don't like them.

I hate the one minded kind of people that think if they hate something it must be awful. Different tastes for different people.

That's because it doesn't have action every two seconds...it's not the Lost Boys or 30 Days of Night...I think most people are expecting the typical "popcorn film" and its not that at all. I disagree, I think it's very entertaining, for people with little or no attention span, it won't be.

Exactly just because people aren't getting killed every second or things aren't blowing up doesn't mean it's a crap movie.

Teenage girls are taking over the box office. I mean they've always boosted sales in blockbusters (i.e. for Leo in Titanic, Johnny Depp in Pirates, and Heath in TDK), but never have they turned a movie, which is targeted at a young female audience based on a book targeted at young female readers, into a nation-wide, record-breaking blockbuster.
