Well that's not what I meant. I meant that if you are using it on a cell phone, you'd need some sort of data plan for that cell phone, for it to work on the phone.

Since he just got a Nexus One, I don't think BStecke was planning on getting rid of his actual phone any time soon, but was wondering about getting rid of the plan for it.

I mainly use it for the free texting, but you can get unlimited free calling from any phone if you cobble Gizmo5 together with it. Here is the complete guide to doing that with Google Voice:

Had this when it was introduced way back as Grand Central. I have a Beverly Hills number which are no longer available (310). My brother has an Area 51 number. Took us a while to pick him a cool one. His wound up being something something 879-UFOS.

Haha. I have an LA number (LA has a bunch of area codes, but I picked 323, which includes Hollywood), and picked one that was similar to my regular phone number (first 3 digits are the same, just in a different order, last four digits are exactly the same).

I only did that because I thought it'd be funny to have an LA number to go along with a NY number (my real one).

I wanted a NYC number but did not find one INSIDE NYC. There were all outlying. Plus with GV, you can only have one phone tied to a number. If you try to add your own number to another GV number, it tells you its tied to another and would you like to move it to the new one or leave it.

Besides, I don't need 50 billion numbers
