Loved this game, can't wait to play it again and unlock all the "GF's"
Inevitable, but glad to have confirmation... this game defined the Christmas of 1999 for me. The only game that I played for months at the turn of the millennium, and long after!

Can't wait to play it on my PSP!

on what do you base this claim exactly? this is from assosiatepublisher.com

"The game has sold more than 9.72 million copies worldwide as of March 2006, earning it the position of the best-selling Final Fantasy title"

the only reason 8 sold as well as it did is that being the follow up to 7 it was the most anticipated game that year. meaning so many people tought "hey 7 was so great that 8 will probably be great too..." then they play it and "oh wait it isnt"

Honestly I thought it was just as good, final boss aside but I know I'm in the minority there. I liked how
[Show spoiler]the stronger the party leader gets, the harder enemies get, that was a fun little twist.

Yeah I hated the harder card rules too, made me get the card mod skill really quick. Some nice items to be had through winning card games, though.

Yea, I liked 8 as well and it is just as good as 7 in my opinion, but then FF8 was my first ever FF so maybe thats why, but yea its sad that 8 get so much hate from Final Fantasy fans.

Is FF IX similar to FF VIII in regards to the add/remove abilities option?

I know the build-up to 7 was a lot bigger and the
[Show spoiler]death of Aerith touched a lot of players
and it was a lot of people's first FF, that may be why. Honestly yes FFVIII has a lot of cheesy moments and silly parts but that's true for all of the Final Fantasies. I think it's because they all deal with global destruction or annihilation and the silliness is supposed to help you cope with that.

i just remember playing all the way through VIII waiting for the good part and it never came. squall was just a cloud clone but without the reason for his bad attitude. seifer (i had to look his name up, totally forgettable) was built up as a big time bad guy but turned out to be just some deuchebag. and this is just personal opinion but a card game? really? to me card games of all kinds are the most boring type of game in existance. and then to put one into a "video" game?! that just seems ridiculous

If by cloud clone you mean "used a sword". After that point, they weren't the same character at all.

This cinches it, you never even bothered to pay attention to Final Fantasy 8's storyline.

So don't play the card game? You are whining about a completely optional game?

There are a ton of legitimate reasons why people dislike Final Fantasy 8, but you jump right past them to the absurd.

The FF8 card game is my favorite FF mini game. I have put countless hours in it and even downloaded a stand alone version on the PC.

Am I the only one who used the quiz cheats? I found it annoying enemies didn't drop cash and compensated by racking up my SeeD level.

I also wonder if anyone else noticed the main characters in all the Final Fantasies seem to be blatantly emo, makes you wonder about the Square Enix programmers.

What do you mean by "quiz cheats"? Is there actually a cheat or did you just look up the answers? I started replaying VIII the other day. I haven't cheated yet, but boy there sure are some poorly worded questions in those tests.

I still have my PS1 discs but never finished FFVIII. Or IX. Or X-2. I did finish VII, X, XII and XIII though

Yeah looking up the SeeD answers would be considered cheating. Those poorly worded questions are just badly done translations, I think. Still have never beaten the Spider machine in the test, starting to think I never will.

You should finish IX. It really is a great game and is one of my favorite FF games.

I beat that damn X-ATM092 last night! Tried to farm him a little for AP but couldn't remember the right time to run. Just ended up killing him on the 4th encounter.

I can't have played that one much at all because I can't remember any characters or anything about the game to be honest!
