Cross game voice chat is part of online play and it should be free. Why would I want to pay for something that I am condemning Microsoft for charging its customers. Gimme cross game voice chat free and I'll shut up satisfied.

If they really made PS1 games free with the fee, I'd pay it in a heartbeat, because I end up buying enough of them that I'd end up saving money.

Well, as long as they aren't only free as long as you are a paid subscriber that is.

for me, VidZone alone is enough to warrant this price tag. i know you chaps across the pond get it for free, but i have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. my wife and i entertain quite a bit, and music videos would be fantastic during a party. the cloud storage is great too. now i can bring some games over to a friends house and jump right in wherever we want.

Assuming it is real at all, the only thing that bothers me is the Members Only Game Content. The rest of the stuff are new features that I don't particularly care about anyway that people can pay to play.

+1 $70 for everything and then the lesser plan of $30 would be good.

The member only in game content is kinda a lame idea, as well as paying for cross game chat. I'd never use the chat myself but like others I think it should be free.

Exclusive Experiences with Sony Brands? wtf could that be

That would annoy any serious trophy hunter's entire friend list xD

Yeah the access to the PSOne games will make or break any paid subscription for me.

That's exactly right. That sheet was actually only one of several similar sheets included in the survey, and users were asked which of the four they would choose in each set. Presumably to guage what would be the best feature vs price point.

Oh and the exclusive in game content. Unless it was available to others in DLC form.

Expect the PSone game licenses to be tied to the subscription. That would be the only way it would make sense. Otherwise someone could by a one month subsription for $10 and then download tons of games.

If anything like that happened it would likely be all the motivation I need to swap out my PS3 with a Oppo.

That could actually work out well for me.

What the hell does that mean? I bought a $600 PS3 during the format war when the PS3 was waaaaaay behind, and had almost no games.

I expect to get "priority customer service" every single freakin' time. I shouldn't have to pay extra to get good/timely customer service. No one should.

Well if it's tied to the subscription, meaning if I'm a member for a year, and stop (I lost my internet, or whatever) and all those PS1 games don't work anymore, I'd be upset.

I wouldn't mind paying a yearly fee for exclusive content/DLC, free access to PSOne/PSP minis games, early access to content... stuff like that.

I don't play anything online so couldn't care less about cross game chat. I also don't use Facebook so don't care about that either.

Already have the Netflix streaming disc so it would just be an added bonus to be able to access Netflix without the disc. Which I don't think will happen until the contract between Microsoft and Netflix is up anyway.

I would not pay for anything. Yeah the extra stuff is nice but I only really care about the online gaming since I donlt have much time for all the other stuff

So you expect to be able to watch movies previously streamed from Netflix after you end membership then?

It's a subscription model. You stop paying, you stop playing. You can't tell Microsoft "oh, I paid the last 12 months of XBL Gold, surely I don't need to keep paying for the same level of access".

I will make clear that everything PSN currently offers free will never be charged for. SCE aren't taking features away from anybody. If it happens then it would be premium, the free package would still be what we get now and since most people are happy with that I don't see the problem.

X2. I'd ONLY pay more for FREE content that others have to pay for, and for exclusive content. But since I don't really play any PS1 game that I don't have on disc, and I don't on-line game I don't need any of the bells and whistles. As long as I can get my trophies i'm fine.

Seems a survey made by IPSOS (and -assumed- to be originating from Sony) received by Kotaku details some of the options in "packages" that could be included in the "possible" future PSN Premium.

We find 4 options at different pricing ($29.99 annual or $69.99 annual), and some of the stuff sounds actually quite good:
- Cloud storage (accessing your saved games and data anywhere)
- Free access to all PSOne games, PSP minis and themes
- Exclusive access to some Betas
- Online Music & Music Video service (Vidzone?)
- Discount on Store content
- 1st hour of Full Games playable for free
- Member demo sharing of full games
- Extended Console waranty 3 years (!!!)
- Exclusive "Sony brand" access, priority Customer service access
- Early acess to Store content
- Loyalty program rewards
- Catch Up TV (?)

ok cool.

but some of the stuff would DEFINITELY not sit too well with me (and I'm not even a big time multiplayer fan):

- Cross Game Voice chat (uh? ONLY for PSN Premium?)
- Netflix useable without disc (That'd be spitting in our faces, figuratively speaking)
- Member only in game content (way to create a two tiered game experience)
- User to User challenges (cf X-game chat - it's a multiplayer feature)
- Facebook connectivity (aren't we supposed to have that already?)

We'll have to wait and see, but definitely a mixed bag here...
I agree with all of this, especially the ones I bolded. I hope that all of the positives are available for the lower priced subscription. I think that this idea actually makes paying for service worth while because you get a whole slew of additional content for the subscription; and, if you don't want to subscribe, you can still play online for free.

Its all well and fine if current features remain free. The real issue is what is going to happen with new features.

Are they going to continue having great(free) firmware updates with cool new features? Or are they going to charge for every new feature from now on? A clear example of this is cross game voice chat.

Also if Sony does want to open up another revenue stream, why dont they work harder at getting the video service to other regions (LIKE CANADA!!!!) and get a music service going pronto.

I wouldn't mind this if they took Qore and expanded it. Just call it Qore Membership. All of this is dependant on the PS3 operating exactly as it is now without being a member.
  • Increase the price.
  • Add additional functionality and content from that table in from the OP.
  • Integrate the additional content into an app that resides on the PS3 OS, similar to Life w/ PS (or rebrand the app and add channels for Qore members).

If this survey is true, is it? i had no idea we would be paying for cross game chat. that was the one thing, among many other features, that would make XBL look like an overpaid service.

Guess i'll never be using it then. it basically defeats the purpose of having it since not everyone will have it.

EDIT- I want maxpower back!
