I've never had a problem with the load time of BRDs, I mean if I'm going to sit down for 2 plus hours to watch a movie, I'm sure I can spare an extra 20 seconds.

I purchased a Toshiba BDX2000 on Black Friday for $80. For the prices I have no complaints. Load times have always been less than 40 seconds (vs. about 15 for my Oppo DV-981HD). It was manufactured in October and so far no firmware updates have been listed on Toshiba's website (and I don't have it hooked up to the internet so I have no idea if there is one waiting out there). Playback has been fine - I think out of eight BR discs played so far I've had two or three freeze somewhere during the movie for about five seconds. I can live with that. Remote response is a quick as the DV-981HD.

I really haven't had any issues to date. Considering the picture quality improvement over the Oppo DVD player for a measly $80 I'm very happy. I have only one gripe - upscaling SD-DVD is ho-hum, but I'm not getting rid of the Oppo so I have all the bases covered.

I will chime in and say that I have NEVER done a firmware update on my ps3, nor have I ever connected it to the internet. I have also had ZERO issues with playing any of my BD's.

A few BD movies took much longer to load such as A Haunting in Connecticut that took at least 45 seconds to load.

One feature of BD movies that seems to increase the load times for some movies is BD java. On my player, A Haunting in Connecticut took a take a long time to load the BD java for this disc.

The one aspect of the BD specification that does not do a lot for me is BD java. I am not entirely sure what BD java does other than interactive menu features such as bookmarking.
Agreed about BD Java and 2.0 stuff, I find it useless - so what do I do? To keep my machine from trying to download that stuff from the net I've told it not to connect to the internet - plain and simple. I've done the same thing for my PC system - if it needs a software update I'll get it myself. My standalone hasn't needed an update for a long - long time. I can play the main feature and bitstream my movies - that's all I need - in the words of Frozone - I'm good...I'm good.

P.S. Stopping the player from connecting has sped up my loading times. Learned that trick when Iron Man came out - that movie crashed the servers!!!!
