I find that the best way to do it is to not buy a game when it first come out unless you are going to open it and play right away. Otherwise, just go through the other games that you already have. By the time you're ready to play the newer game, the price would have dropped. You can get it cheaper for immediate use.
The only exception is if I happen to find a game earlier on that is between $10.00 to $20.00. I may pick it up then. What I usually do is to check Amazon and Amazon Marketplace for pricing on a title that I want in "new" condition and just watch it. When I'm ready to buy, I'll see if Amazon or an Amazon Marketplace seller have the best price (with Amazon Marketplace I add shipping as part of the total price to balance out with the Amazon free shipping). I would buy the "new" item from whomever is cheapest. I never buy "used" games or even get them "new" from EB Games, Gamestop, etc. I hate that they open the "new" package and remove the content in advance. I want to be sure that the item is new not because someone said it's new. What if they get their filing mixed up and you end up getting a used copy? And their price is usually higher than Amazon and Amazon Marketplace anyway. |

I guess I'm in the minority, I only play one game at a time to completion. I get too confused having to learn multiple control schemes concurrently, so I only buy a game that I intend to play immediately (Fallout 3 being the only exception).
Here's my current collection of retail discs: Assassin's Creed 2: Platinumed and sold today. Didn't care for the controls enough to keep and go through again. Bioshock: Played through twice. Might never go for the platinum, but this game is one of the all-time greats. Borderlands: Platinumed. Love it, and the DLC will keep me coming back to it. Burnout Paradise: Platinumed. Love it, and will get Big Surf Island when the price comes down. Dead Space: On my second playthrough, fantastic game. Put aside for the time being, but will come back to it. Platinum is out of the question. ![]() Fallout 3: UP NEXT! God Of War Collection: Haven't started, but probably could get away with playing this one concurrently with Fallout 3. Controls wouldn't be an issue. GTA 4: Finished, not sure I'll play again to get the trophies. Liked the story enough to keep on the shelf, may revisit in the future. Infamous: Platinumed. One of my favourite games this year, started a third playthrough before moving on. A keeper. LittleBigPlanet: Finished, haven't touched in a while. The "create" aspect doesn't appeal to me, but I used to dig the user created content. Should probably give this one more attention. NHL 09: Played a full season and playoffs, come back to it on occasion for some online fun. The Orange Box: I've played through Portal no less than 5 times. ![]() Sega Genesis Collection: Platinumed. Great to throw in on occasion. Shinobi Arcade, FTW. Uncharted: Played through three times. A classic, though Crushing is too much for me. Uncharted 2: Played through twice. Crushing is STILL too much for me. Wolverine: On second playthrough, chipping away at it between releases. A solid GoW clone. I also have New Super Mario Bros. Wii on the go, but the controls are simple, and it's best reserved for multiplayer sessions. I really like to squeeze as much content out of my purchases as possible. I average about 5-6 game purchases per year, so I like to ensure I get the most for my money. I also like to keep my "pile of shame" to a minimum at all times. Having two right now is reasonable considering the time of year. ![]() |

Its funny, when I was in school I suffered from this more often (less financial burdens, more spending money). Now, I dont have a big backlog as before. Its probably bc most of money goes to blu-ray movies lol. But the few games I do buy that end up in my backlog, I get them cheap thanks to CAG.

I'm with you on this. I buy games and I play them so much, get really into them, and I just don't want them to end so I stop playing. And sometimes it seems like I never go back (GTA4, COD4).
I've been telling myself for the last few weeks that I want to go through and finish all of the games that I'm playing and just sell them. |

I was the same way. I think I just liked have new games, but then I'd go to the next new game. So I traded in most of my games (which actually bought me my sub and speakers on Amazon) and now I only have Modern Warfare 2, The Sabateur and Forza 3 for the 360 and LittleBigPlanet and MLB 08 The Show for PS3. Plus all the downloaded games for both systems. I'm getting back into Counter-Strike Source anyway.
