I have never broken in speakers and have never had a problem. I usually follow the manufacturer's recommendations and have never had speakers where the manufacturer recommended a break-in period.

I would have to say speaker "break-in" is a very real thing. It might be entirely true that you won't "hurt" the speakers if you play them at loud levels from the start. But with as many speakers as I've been through, the sound does change once the spider & surround are broken in. Speakers are mechanical with moving parts unlike components. It's quite common that you'll hear people say that their new speakers sound horrible when first hooked up. Then after a short period of use will sound much, much better......
