I agree with what most say here as I also own the UK release: it has a lossless track (TrueHD) and I have the impression the PQ is also better than the US release. T3 was released in the UK by Sony and they provide strong technical PQ and AQ generally.

So if you don't mind spending a bit more, I say you are right to return the US disc and get the UK version instead (which is region free). Extra's are about the same as well ... I think the US release just has one extra featurette the UK doesn't have.

Actually, it's Dolby Digital Plus as it was labeled on the HD DVD, which is the same transfer that was ported over to the Blu Ray version, so it's identical in picture and sound.

Dolby Digital Plus is a higher bit rate than standard Dolby Digital but not quite TrueHD. Either way, it's one of my favorite soundtracks to try out new receivers/speakers or to demo my set up. The standard DD 5.1 track rocks but there's definitely an improvement on the Blu disc and for $9.99, you can't really go wrong. Besides, there's no word on if or when they'll ever do a full remaster with TrueHD, so this is it for the forseeable future.

Actually, WB only used 640 kbps for the DD Plus tracks on HD-DVD, so the standard DD on the Blu-Ray is identical.

The full frame DVD is what they're referring too. All of the 2.35:1 versions should be identical (or very close to) with regards to framing.

Just placed my order.
I also ordered The Bourne Trilogy...total with shipping $47.06.
Now my "new & never viewed, but opened" US version will keep my HDDVD's company.

Damn you people! I just ordered it from amazon.uk. I've managed to hold off on it up until now.

I have The Island- it looks phenominal and the sound is really good too. Probably my favorite import so far.

You should watch the WB release before your Sony disc arrives. It will make you feel even better about your purchase.

I ordered the UK version and it arrived today. Altogether it was a little under $18. This is my first import. I won't have a chance to watch it for a few days unfortunately. It came in a much thicker case than I expected. Inside the spine of the case are clips where you would clip in another "page" in case you wanted the case to hold multiple discs. I have a few spare single-disc cases on standby so I moved the sleeve and disc into one of those for uniformity with my other movies.

Most UK Blu-ray come in the thicker cases. Once you import enough of them though, you get used it.

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks. The only other title I'm tempted to import at the moment is The Island because there's never been a US release of it at all. The only reason I don't is because the UK version has Dolby Digital (which I hear is still pretty good) and I suspect there will be a US release sooner or later. If the UK version had lossless audio I would have imported it a long time ago.
