No one mention the classic Korean movie D-Wars

On topic I would recommend any parents with kids loving dragons to pick up the animated movie Dragon Hunters. It's been seriously overlook and it's beautiful and as a charming story.

Dang, forgot about those. They're fun. And "Dragon Hunters" is very imaginative and kid-friendly; should be worth a blind buy.

I think it's mostly due to technology and lack of performance at the box office on previous attempts. Most CGI portrayals of dragons in movies like Dragonheart and Eragon attempt to make the dragons to human which makes them look and feel lame and non-threatening. They did a much better job in Reign of Fire but the story and acting was kind of lame.

Don't forget Flight of Dragons, even though it's not on Blu. You can get a DVD from the WB site. Whoops, never mind. Just realized it was already mentioned.

Although it's not on Blu (and probably never will be), the 80's TV cartoon Dungeons & Dragons is available on DVD pretty cheap. This may be perfect for a young child.

I also cast a vote for the childhood favorite, Pete's Dragon, I remember seeing that in an old drive-in by my house growing up.

Oh snap, how could I forget about this classic gem of Germanic folklore and myth?! (not to mention a classic gem of a movie; Fritz Lang, FTW!!!)

Glad to see you played that for your son. That's one of my favorite moves of all-time. I can't wait until that comes to blu-ray. All other dragon movies pale in comparison so far (Reign Of Fire comes in a far distant 2nd), but I haven't seen Dragonheart yet.

However, The Hobbit is coming and Peter Jackson is also working on Temeraire? Don't know anything about it but googl'ing it brought up a ton of dragon pictures.
