I prefer it how the director wanted it....

it's his movie and I hate when people sacrifice their creative views to please the masses....

I like movies. I don't care what it looks like, as long as it is good. Maybe we should not buy any Black and White movies ever, because my HDTV has a bijillion colours why only use 2!

With grain.

It was fine in the PSN HD trailer with grain, fine in the theater with grain, and fine on BD with grain.

I want it exactly how it was in the movie theaters. Grain and all !
You shouldn't mess with the directors intended look.

You're also in a forum filled with purist videophiles I wouldn't change from what it was meant to be, I just kinda wish it was made without. Usually grain doesn't bother me, but it was really bad in one of the beginning scenes on 300. I lost track of what was going on in the movie because a character's face had so much grain. I felt like I was tripping or something.

I would like to see LESS of the stylization in Hi-Def! I'm totally for the respect paid to the graphic novel. Had I directed it, I would have found a middle ground between what IS and the clarity that could have been. But, I still love the film!!!

I haven't seen 300 myself. But, the big question is:

Does the Warner VC-1 encoding for HD DVD that we're forced to put up with handle the grain well? Or is it emphasizing it in some way?

I'm not sure anyone but a professional compressionist can answer that question. And I doubt whether any are brave enough to do so in public.

Anyone who reads this forum knows that frequently HD DVD encodes are bit-starved. The risk we take with Warner titles is this very thing. We know they'll play, but we're never sure if we're stuck with sub-standard encoding due to Warner merely porting HD DVD over to us.

Grainy. It's bothering! What's the use of HD then?

The detail is still there. And HD is about enhanced detail not smoothness.

People are expecting video from film every time now. That's an unfortunate side effect of HD broadcasts.

I think you should just accept the film for what it is. There is grain. It was meant to be that way. Deal with it. There isn't going to be a special edition non-grain release. The idea was to take the Graphic novel and put it on film. That's what they did.

What is the big deal with grain? It makes the movie! It gives the feel of being there in that time and place. Another example is King Arthur Director's Cut. A lot of people complained it looks green. The director shot it that way. To give an ancient times feel to the movie. I think it's cool they can do that. It may even help the CGI looking too much CGI. Some of the Star Wars CGI is too fake....

Why don't we just start another poll...

Would you prefer if they colorized the begining of the "Wizard of Oz?"

For crying out loud people, "300" looks the way the director wanted, if you don't like it, stop *****ing and don't buy it.
