Good question.
What is weak sauce is that there are no extras! That being the case it sounds like this release doesn't offer anything at all that the Polish or Danish releases don't offer since they are both region A friendly but any extras are in PAL. Would've been nice to get some extras. All three of these releases are pretty much the same price at $30-$32 shipped from various sources in their home countries. Ok cool. I'm buying it regardless but just one more question I can think of lol. Does the movie default to playing with Chinese subs on?

If you're on DDD House looking for more titles to add, try "Red Cliff", "The Warlords", "Ip Man". I also liked "The Banquet (Ye Yan)" but that one's PQ doesn't do the film justice.

Red Cliff is getting ready to come out next month here in the U.S. be careful Magnolia is releasing two versions, International 146 min cut and both full films together. Warlords comes out next month in theaters, all ready on the OnDemand I believe, probably out this Summer here in the U.S.

Just a heads up - the Beav' posted a review up. Said the HK video appears to be a direct port of the French version, so the PQ is top notch.
My copy shipped today. Sadly it's coming alone because I alread had Red Cliff and didn't want to shell out $50 for Equilibrium. Ah well. The screencaps look great. http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCom...ulpfiction.htm |

I can confirm the HK blu is probably the best version for us.
Great PQ (better than the polish EE version) and suffers no audio speedup. As its a 1080p24p source, if there was speedup the audio wouldn't be in sync would it? As the video would have to be sped up to 25p to match? And if they did something to sync the audio and video then you would hear some sort oft time stretching. None on the HK version. |

No - there could still be speed-up issues if the video is 24fps. A PAL (4% faster) audio track could have been time-stretched to bring it back to its original speed. The pitch would still be almost a semitone higher.
The best way to check (if you don't have the ear for it) is to line up a song on the soundtrack from the blu with a correct version of the song (from cd/mp3 or youtube). Play a few seconds of the song, then alternate to the other device and play a few seconds. You'll instantly be able to tell if one's a higher pitch than the other. Play both at the same time and it'll either sound fine (with perhaps sync issues) or horribly out-of tune. |
