I thought the movie was a very different and Unique approach by Kevin Smith. It was great and highly enjoyable.

Didn't Kevin Smith try to make another film which fits the genre but was very disappointing?

I think Ryan Reynolds or Liv Tyler were in the movie but I don't remember very well.

You're thinking of Jersey Girl with Liv Tyler and Ben Affleck.

I liked it a lot, but for whatever reason many others didn't.

The reasons are pretty evident, although I disagree with them.

1. Ben Affleck
2. Jennifer Lopez
3. PG-13 rating.

hahaha,

Yeah Affleck made himself a reputation after Jenny with Block relationship.

I don't about Tyler though. Wait was it Jennifer Lopez in the Movie? I always thought it was Tyler.

Edit: Nevermind I got it. You are talking about the relationship at the time.

Jennifer Lopez was in the movie as well, but only a little bit (Watch out for spoilers pertaining to her role), and everyone was all gung ho on ripping on both her and Ben, after the Gigli fiasco, so much that they pretty much eliminated her from the marketing, and even went so far as to spoil an aspect of her character so as to assure people this wasn't another Ben and J-Lo movie.

I thought it was a decent movie. Some people just love to shit on anything that has Ben Affleck in it, and the fact that Lopez was tied into it, albeit limited, it was made into something it wasn't.

I see, I am considering to rent it tomorrow and watch it. But I shouldn't expect another Chasing Amy in the movie.

I was forced to Screen Gigli to make sure that film is built right. I almost ended up ripping my eyes out.

ha ha ha.

No it's not Chasing Amy. It's a fairly straightforward romantic comedy.

Speaking of which, a really good rom-com/drama with Affleck is called "Bounce.

I really liked that.

Actually "Bounce" is a pretty good movie. And plus it was done before the whole Jenny from the Block fever. Gwyneth was awesome playing the part of the widow.

Plus I agree.

I was dissapointed when Criterion chose not to the Blu-ray for this movie. Once this title gets into the $15 range it will definitely be in my collection...

"Stay Thirsty, My Friends"
I agree with everything here. Kevin Smith was trying to get Jason Lee cast as Fletch for years when he was going to direct the re-boot. I think he would have been great in it.

Criterion didn't put out a bluray because that would be "double dipping" from what I read.

There was talk of releasing a single disc that you could snap into the case for the bluray, but I don't think that ever happened.

EDIT: I was slightly off. It was the special edition DVD that was nixed by Criterion:

Quote:
It was rumored that 2007 would see the release of a Chasing Amy X DVD, in a similar vein as the Clerks X DVD and the Mallrats: 10th Anniversary DVDs. But at Comic-Con 2007, Smith confirmed that a special "supplementary" DVD will be released next year to go along with the Criterion Collection DVD released earlier that will just have more extras on it. Smith later said Criterion rejected the idea of a special edition as being "double dipping," but he is hopeful that new featurettes can be included on a future Blu-ray Disc release of the film.

Gigli was like Ben Affleck's downfall. He went away for a few years and now he's starting to come back. He used to do like two or three movies a year and then like vanished into thin air. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000255/ Given Smokin' Aces was a 2007 film, he's been away for a while.

I'd consider myself a Kevin Smith fan, however there are many things that annoy me about this film. The two things that annoy me the most are Joey Lauren Adams' voice and the pretentious dialogue.

So this movie was re-issued earlier this year with the encode switched from VC-1 to MPEG 4. Does anybody know if it looks any better?

It's the same as the disc that's in the triple pack, which is the same disc as the oldest disc. I really think that mpeg-4 listing is a misprint. Because the Jay and Silent Bob Paramount re-press is still mpeg-2. Still, if by some miracle they did re-encode the old baked master I'm sure it looks the same.
