to answer something you mentioned in an earlier post, it has both a full compliment of balanced and unbalanced connections for interconnects.

hope this helps.

I believe it was the prior PR-SC885/886 models that had "P", or pro versions. When I shopped for my 886 there was an 886P model with the rack mounts, though I believe they were bolt-on and not permanent.

Love your new set up, I would return that ipod dock though. I see that you appreciate audio quality otherwise you wouldn't have gone the separates route. Onkyo has a new dock already out in Europe that you should hold out for.

http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/31/o...site-video-an/

The beauty of this dock that it will allow you to bypass the cheapo DAC's on your ipod and let you use the high-end DACs on your Pre/pro.

Hello Solarrdadd!

Congrats! The Onkyo SC-5507 is a nice addition to your already impressive setup. Once you implement the Audyssey programming, your systems performance should be on point. That's definitely dollar for the dollar, feature for feature one of the best pre-pros available.

Now, since you will have to unhook everything from the 805, this will be a good time to address this:

Yeah Solarrdadd, it's that time! Your system deserves good cable organization.

The back of my system looked very similar to yours, but that had to change, not only for aesthetic reasons but also for system performance.
And especially the separation of interconnects and power cords. At the minimum, that should be a priority!

If you need suggestions, check out the official wire management thread.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/home-theat...nt-thread.html

There's alot of info about the subject and several examples.

that dock is no good for me, if you read my sig you will see that i have an iphone and that dock doesn't work for the iphone, but thanks anyway. this dock is simply a better way to connect my iphone to my system, gets me video & audio (line level), charges the unit and controls it with my harmony one so for me this dock is better.

Default time to get busy!

Howdy, well, i'm making some coffee to go with my oatmeal (cause you don't look this good at my age without eating oatmeal!) first thing is to power the 5507 up to of course make sure it will power up. once that is confirmed, then, i will officially begin the removal of cords & things from my old setup. the 805 will come out, there will be the usual major cleaning (doing things like this affords you the chance to do that) then the cable management will start.

I'll get as much of that done before setting up to place the 5507 in it's resting place. after cabling everything in place, (i know there is a new firmware update available) i'll update the unit before putting it in place via ethernet once complete and it looks ok, i'll connect cables to it and put it in place then do the calibration. i'll test a couple of sources of 7.1, 5.1, DTS-HD-MA, DTS-MA-HR, Dolby TrueHD, LPCM, SACD/DSD, DVD-A, sirius & iphone docks, Xbox 360 &
ps3, cable hd-dvr then after all of that works good, i'll go and program the harmony one remote. i checked the site at logitech and yes there is full programing available for the 5507.

then i plan on getting a nice glass of wine and start enjoying and toying around with the unit. i will have my initial impressions up by either late tonight or tomorrow then later in the week i'll give a better review beyond the initial, it will be more thorough.

and i'm off.....

That is an awesome unit SD! I would love to get my paws on one, but I spent way too much on upgrades this year so far. I love the onkyo interface so much, that I am reluctant to travel into uncharted waters. Pioneer Elite has been on my mind, but not for sure. The model I been looking at is $600. My wife gave me the faces when I asked her about getting a new avr or pre-amp. If my Onkyo had the hook-up for the UPA-1 iPod dock and a trigger that works in 7.1, I wouldn't even be looking. I had to return the UPA-1 iPod dock because I didn't read the specs before my purchase. It won't work with the 806. I am still not sure what to do yet, but That onkyo pre/pro is out of my reach right now. What do you suggest? I have already decided to add two UPA-2 amps to my set-up.

I look forward to the new and improved configuration.

By the way, if you have all of that accomplished by this evening, I will be impressed. That looks like a two day job at the minimum.
Anyway, i wish you the best and Godspeed!

You are correct, I believe this is where my confusion on whether or not there were two different models came from.

Looking forward to your initial impressions SD.

solarrdadd I'm looking forward to your detailed review on this pre/pro. I was thinking about upgrading to the Integra DHC-80.1 then I stumbled on this Onkyo. Can you PM me the price you got for the Onkyo? Thanks.

You heard it here first: 2 day job!

SD! Just formulating a strategy for the cable organization is going to take you 2-3 hours. Trust me, you have a 2 day job at the minimum! And that's including working to the wee-hours of the morning! And are you addressing the ventilation concerns for the amps?!
Thanks for the update! I'm with you in spirit my brutha!

Default moving right along so far!

well, did a bunch of cleaning and cable dressing and whatnot. here are the innerconnects that i am using and a shot of the 5507 in it's resting place.

above XLR to XLR for the XPA-5

above XLR to RCA for the UPA-2 & Sub

above 5507 in it's resting place getting to know the rest of the family to include XPA-5, UPA-2 & Oppo-BDP 83. All four of these components have emotiva
X-series shielded power cables feeding them!

i promise to have a shot of the wire management in the next series.

Ok, break over, back to work!

It's looking good SD.

Being that you haven't acknowledged my inquiry regarding the ventilation of the XPA-5, I guess you have it handled or you see no reason to be concerned. I will tell you this though, placing the Oppo BDP-83 on top of the Onkyo SC-5570 because of the heat output, could eventually effect your Oppo's performance. You do not have to take my word for it. Just ask around. With all the processors within the Onkyo, it's going to run warm to hot! (a common trait of Onkyo products). I'm not trying to be a killjoy. You have such nice equipment, it would be ashame if they had premature malfunctions because of the lack of ventilation. You seem to be very knowledgeable about AV and the subject of ventilation should be academic to you.

Is it that your options are limited due to the type of rack you have?

Please forgive me if you feel that I'm totally off-base with my inquiry and concern.
