Default Giant Wave Hits Cruise ship.

Hey,

Mother Nature is surely unpredictable lately.

Quote:
(CNN) -- Two passengers aboard a cruise ship were killed when 26-foot waves crashed into the vessel Wednesday, officials said. As many as 14 others were injured.

The Greek Louis Cruise Lines ship was off the French port of Marseille when it was hit by "abnormal" waves, some more than 26 feet (9 meters) high, cruise line spokesman Michael Maratheftis said.

Five windows in public areas were smashed, and two passengers, a German and an Italian, were killed, he said.

Fourteen others were treated for light injuries, Maratheftis said.
The vessel, the Louis Majesty, was sailing under a Maltese flag and traveling from Barcelona, Spain, to Genoa, Italy, the Greek Public Ministry of the Mercantile Marine said.

The ship had 1,350 passengers and 580 crew on board, the ministry said.
After being struck, the cruise ship turned around and was heading back to port in Barcelona.

Buoy data off the French coast indicated that weather was the likely cause of the high waves. Winds were at 45 mph at that buoy.
Good thing the rest of the Passengers and Crew made it and are heading back to land.

Source.

this all (crazy weather trends and what not)has got me concerned as I live a 'hurricane zone' and am now wondering what type of season we will have this year...

not that there is necessarily a connection between all of these earthquakes, storms, flooding, rogue waves, etc, etc,

or is there ?

So far I would just call it random but I'm not a meteorologist so take that with a grain of salt. Makes me glad I don't live on a fault line or one of the coasts.

Hmm, sounds familiar. At least it didn't end up, upside down.

I wonder what the circumstances are around the two deaths. I mean did they drown, or were they maybe elderly or what?

More of it is because of the internet. We hear about everything nearly the moment it happens. Freaks of nature happen every day.

I agree. I'm not convinced that things like this are happening more often, but we're just more aware of them.
