Incredible stuff. I always enjoy these kinds of stories where someone puts an item up on sale without a clue as to what it''s value is and rakes in mountains of money.

If you read the seller's posts on a Nintendo website forum she states that she picked up this game at a yard sale! Good thing she didn't put a "buy it now" price on Ebay.

Default Nintendo NES - Stadium Events- Why does it fetch so much? Megathread

Why is this game going for so high? So far the bid is at $2850!

As far as i know stadium events is considered the rarest game for NES. I think it was handed out at a ping pong tournament or something, so only a few were made and less exist today.

About a month ago some lady was selling a NES and like 5 games, one of which was Stadium Events in the original packaging. The auction on Ebay closed out at over 10,000.

Recently home console games have been gaining significant collectable status. NES and PS1 are definitly in that category as i have been trying to locate games for both recently (for playing not collecting) and too my surprise many old games i used to love that i was expecting to pay a dollar for are actually crazy expensive. Final Fantasy 7 for the playstation is one i really want but goes for like $50 or more.

You would have to be crazy to spend that sort of cash on a game

Once it tops 41,000 let me know, otherwise its just another Stadium game.

Sweet Baby Jesus, who the hell would spend that much on a game? Seriously? You know how many regular video games you can buy with that much cash?

That one was new, so this one will go for significantly less being used.

That one was sealed as well.

The North American, or NTSC, version of Stadium Events is universally accepted as the rarest licensed NES game available for purchase in North America.[2][3][4][5] It was recently named #6 on a list of 20 "Holy Grails of Console Gaming"[6], a list that covered all gaming systems in all countries. The reason for its rarity and subsequent high market price[7][8][9] is due to its limited production and sales.[10] At the time of its launch during the holiday season of 1987, Stadium Events was only available in limited stores. In 1988, Nintendo purchased the North American rights to the FFF mat technology and re-released it as the Power Pad.

The two Family Fun Fitness-branded games that had already been released, as well as Bandai's version of the running pad accessory, were pulled from shelves and presumed destroyed. Because of this odd sequence of events, only 2000 copies are believed to have been produced, of which it is estimated that 200 copies reached consumers before being recalled.[10] Today, collectors who follow the online sale of rare video games believe that fewer than 20 complete copies of the game exist, only two of which are known to be factory sealed. An eBay auction of a NES console along with a copy of the game with manual and box landed the seller a winning bid of $13,105 on February 13, 2010.[11][12] Another eBay auction on an new, factory-sealed version of the game was sold on February 26, 2010 with a winning bid of $41,300, nearly double the old record.

If the numbers are true and only 200 are out there for a collector I would say not a bad deal. But way out of my price range for a video game.

It would have sold for more if the item wasnt located in germany. Theres a BIG risk sending 5 Grand abroad. You have zero protection with paypal and you had better pay with a credit card
