United Kingdom Avatar ~26/04/10~

HMV have now got James Cameron's megahit Avatar up for preorder. There are 2 versions of the bluray, one being a steelbook.

Both have 2 discs, and the steelbook includes artcards

Avatar Blu-ray

Avatar Limited Edition Steelbook Blu-ray

Boycott this piece of crap.
Selling it at full price too, the nerve Cameron and Fox have.

I will buy it on release, watch it and then sell it on, no point in me keeping it if they intend on releasing different versions every 6 months.

If Cameron's is thinking about releasing an extended cut into theater's later this year then you can bet there'll be another release for that too.

I see the Play.com Steelbook version mentions a T-Shirt, but I don't see a mention of this on Amazon or HMV.

Play.com exclusiver, perhaps? I will buy the Steelbook as it will undoubtedly be easy to sell on at a later date.

7.1 audio would be nice but probably not going to happen. Only Lionsgate seem to release those

Default Avatar rip off

It really got to me the other day when i found out that the release of AVATAR will contain no special features and the reason for this is because they want to utilize blu ray capacity to bring us the BEST picture and BEST sound lol. Erm, ok what about adding a second disc to that and BOOM we have our special features. Can they really expect us to believe that they are doing us a favour and its for our benefit? So what happens when they release the film again? Will they add a second disk? Yes. So why not now? And if not they will add the features on the same disc which then means we loose picture and sound quality! I probably sound like im a kid having a tantrum but its just another way to grab our cash and make us believe they are doing us a favour and its ridiculus. I hope nobody buys this thing and waits to buy the version we should have day 1.

Think I'll most likely rent the 1st release and buy the special edition. Sounds like there are some terrific extras lined up.

I think it's worth bearing in mind that some people don't care about special features, so I'm not gonna bother waiting.

Yes but it wouldnt hurt for them to add another disc with special features on it that way it would cater for everyone but now i will have to wait until November.

Mine has a row of the official retail slipcovers for the BD release all lined up on a shelf with a big pre-order sign above it.

Cameron released the blu-ray in 1.78:1 and im assuming thats how it was filmed.Excluding pan and scan i thought a movie could only ever be viewed in the ratio it was filmed in so why was it shown in a wider ratio in some theatres 2.35:1 and why would they mess with the original ratio and how did they change it.

The complete frame was 1.78:1, but I think it was definitely composed for 2.35:1 by matting the top and bottom of the frame. The 1.78:1 was used for IMAX 3D, and Cameron said he fell in love with that ratio, so he decided to let it stay opened up for the Blu-ray and DVD.
