My thoughts are this on the oppo. My daugter is going to need a blu player very soon. So I figured I need to replace mine with something. I figured the oppo has great loading times. If I hook up the analog ports to my pro would it create a better sound over my Sony? Also wouldn't it play dvd's nicer don't care to much for this. I only watch a few dvd's that are not on blu. I also can't turn off the processor of my Sony to only allow my monitor to do all the work unless I am mistaken. I would also like to get a few sacd's I the future. Do these points warrent a purchase? I also like how the oppo looks.
I could justify it with those needs.

Also, can the oppo play a lot of codec. Like divx and others. I have some super bowls, Pioneer demo disc, and national championship games I burned off the internet. I can't play them with my Sony.

Lol! Ok Lou, why would you choose the oppo over my player? I want to make sure I am not just falling to blu Ray peer pressure!

You can look at a ti few ways.
  • Daughter -- You mention that your daughter will be needing one. Do you get her a $100 dollar player, or has yours depreciated enough to justify a new one.
  • DVD's -- You mention that they are not a priority, but a better DVD scaler would be nice.
  • Analog -- It may be better than the Sony, but the better analog will come from the SE or NuForce Editions. Are you considering them or just the standard 83 version?
  • SACD's -- You could get the $80 Sony SACD that Big Daddy got. Also, have you looked at the SACD catalog at http://www.sa-cd.net? That may help you decide.

Personally, I already had an older Oppo DVD/DVD-A/CD/SA-CD player and a Panasonic stand-alone BD player and a PS3. I wanted to try to minimize equipment in my rack. When Oppo announced the BD player, I knew right away and pre-ordered that bad boy as soon as I could. I have not been disappointed. My only regret is not sending it back for the SE upgrade. Although I use HDMI now, if a get a better processor, the analog may have been a better decision. I can still get the upgrade, just not at the discounted rate they offered at the end of 2009.

I'm not sure if I helped or not. My mind is going in 100 different directions today. Sorry if it was a disjointed or confusing post.

Say I did get the SE for it's analog. Can I set it up to when I listen to CDs through analog then throw in a blu and have it exclusively to hdmi? I would like to switch between the two with out any problems.

You may want to PM solarrdad. I think that is how he has his setup. Analog for music and HDMI for movies.

I will also check the menu's this weekend and see if I can confirm that you can specify what media gets played out of what outputs.

Thanks Lou, I appreciate it. Wonder if the 400 in price is worth it.

If you are an audiophile, then the answer may very well be YES!

im pretty sure ive read that all outputs are active all the time. therefore you could hdmi in for movies and analog in for cd playback

you might want to search the avs thread though

You are correct CS wrote this by email.

All outputs are active simultaneously. For this reason you can use the multi-channel analog outputs and the HDMI output without any problems.

Best Regards,

Thank guys!

I just bought a used kuro 141 sig off Craigslist this week for very cheap. Has only 6500 hours on it. I also picked up a kuro 5010 off Craigslist for cheap as well. Only 4500 hours. Bought it several months ago.

Now that right there is one perfect 10 system SW. Very high class look plus B&W has some great sounding audio. You want to trade? I left my rating in your gallery. I'm not sure if you will ever have to upgrade again. Once again WOW.
