I read somewhere that Samsung (and all other 3D LCD TVs) do not show 1080p in 3D mode, whereas plasmas do show 3D in 1080p. True or not?

I just picked up Toy Story I and II and stopped over to see the Samsung and the Monsters Vs Aliens demo.
I sat down and yes... the 3D does work, but it is not really coming out of the screen. But... it does work in a View-Master sort of way. It gives it depth that to me was much better than the movie theater experience. And the flicker lenses actually does not get me sick like in the movie theater watching Avatar and Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs. So, that is a good thing... I can watch it and hopefully not get nauseous. Now back to the 3D, there was an echo or double-image in the demo when words were on the screen. But like I said the View-Master effect works really well and it looks like things are on different layers. That being said, the View-Master effect makes the movie looks less than real-life compared to the 2D look... if that makes sense... it looks like a pop-up book and not good in my opinion. In 2D it looks beautiful, but 3D while cool is not worth buying for me... YET? Last edited by BojTrek; 03-25-2010 at 07:40 PM. |

BINGO!
Those are the words I was looking for to describe the Samsung demo. It gives the impression that the Tv is a book, and characters in the movie are pop-up pictures. While it creates a different sense of depth, it's just not 3D, as it feels like the image is attached to the tv still (just like a book). I honestly think 2D looks better. Lets see if my opinion changes when I get to see the Panasonic demo. |

I have not see any info regarding this from Samsung. It seems they are avoiding answering that question. |

Just got back from viewing both Panasonic 3D Plasma and Samsung 3D LED-LCD at Best Buy in Montclair, CA. I liked the Panny better. The glasses did not drop off in brightness as the angle changed as it did with the Sammy. Monsters vs Aliens was demoed on the Sammy, while the media on the Panny included a variety such as sports shots and travelogues. A shot of a player sliding to home base in slo-mo was SPECTACULAR. I could almost feel the sand hit my face. All in all a very comfortable viewing experience with no artifacts or ghosting.
The watch battery that powers the glasses is said to last about 75 hrs at about $5 per battery. Guess I'll have to wait until June when the PS3 3D firmware update comes out to see if there are any compatibility issues. I think there is a question about the PS3 providing Full HD (1080P) to both eyes. The other issue I'm not sure about is HDMI 1.3 vs 1.4 and the need to buy a new receiver. |

It would have to be the most amazing thing ever for me to wear 3d glasses every time I watch a movie. |

I think this thread has been about the Samsung C7000 series. I just noticed that Amazon has the 55C8000 series now up for sale for $2,991.00. That price is only $12 more then what BB is selling the 55C7000 for. If I remember correctly the 7000 is edge lit where as the 8000 is edge lit with local dimming (a full LED TV, correct?)

As for games/gaming, you can bet your bottom dollar there will be double/triple dips coming when 3D is available. You are also looking at new consoles. I don't think the 360 can even begin to do 3D. I seriously doubt MS even planned for it. Sony on the other hand, did. So no issues there. Quote:

I just found out 2 people from my work already own the samsung 55c7000. So I was asking lots of questions. Both seem to really like it but one commented its too early to do a proper calibration. I asked about cross talk and brightness. One said little to no cross talk at all and had to turn the brightness down. The other said he saw some cross talk on some of the 3D conversion stuff. I will ask them more when I get the chance.

I agree. Faux 3D is not what we need! That's like calling 480p upconverts high-def.
